Like most here I was thinking that Max needed to build his body and might get a couple of games. Having watched him in all 5 games the things that impressed me was his ability to get the ball cleanly from the ground whilst maintaining his balance. So his flexibility & balance, marking & handball are already well developed. But then there is his kicking which has to be considered elite.

To get this nomination playing as a defender is a great achievement. Now you line him up with Dawson. Having both these players moving through the field and being able to deliver the wall into the forward line is just so exciting to watch, and even though Iam repeating what other have said I just loved Max running through the center and delivery that ball to a leading Tex. That was superb.

Just think that this could all get even better as they both develop.

Well said.
I have been very pleasantly very surprised. Not just pleasantly surprised haha!

I can't believe how good he is this early in his career. He has had a positive impact on all 5 games.
He has huge value per possession and he just seems to do all the basics really well, with some flashes of 'very good' stuff.
He is courageous, poised and skilled.
Going to keep getting better and better.

Also, has anyone considered that maybe Max could be our 2027 big bodied mid!? Hahaha!

Please take this is the good humour intended

I don't think you can lay claim to spotting talent when you recognised said talent at the same time as me and 10s of thousands of Crows fans 🤣
Yes, I’m sure a lot of us can recognise talent when they see it. But did you think about him possibly winning the Rising Star and predicting him getting nominated in round 5? ;)

I remember crap like this but I can't remember my anniversary!
As you age your hard disk fills up so you have to delete an old memory to fit in a new one. You’ve obviously put the the anniversary file into the junk bin to accommodate Sandilands, no biggie.

A lot of people mentioned the bullet pass to Tex, but I was sure he did 2 great passes in the last game. So I checked again the highlights. Sure enough, there was a second great pass..
The play at 0:56 is actually what I am loving. Jones kick it to Max in clear space (he knows how to find space), then a composed kick to advantage to Fog (he understands what forwards like and where to kick to).

This kid has the all-round skills to play in a whole heap of positions!

The second pass was just in the Fogarty direction and the ball drifted left (I was sitting behind it). Fog read it better and used his body well.

I wonder if it helped Max at all that he finished Year 12 in 2021?

Meant that his draft year was just a footy year
I spent my first year out of school getting blackout drunk. That must have been why I never got drafted.

Was very important. Up to his top age year he’d been a 1/1 key defender. Both I and Mutineer commented on here that in his draft year he either needed to grow a bit or find some other tools. That year focussed on footy developed a broader game - because he didn’t grow enough to be a key afl defender

84 holds good memories for me

And I didnt even go - but the pre-bounce stuff with Timmy and Craig was fun

82 is not so much a blank but just holds no place for me - I think Woodcock and Aish played well

78 annoyed me a lot

75 was a 25 year drought breaker - Bob Hammond the King of the Parade
Some kid called Gary wins a McCaullum and some President for the Ressies

Chuck him in the middle for a centre bounce or two!.

Kids got calm and poise way beyond his years.. takes the game on at every opportunity.. makes bloody great decisions under pressure.. has skills and talent.. is evasive and has fast feet in traffic.

Give it a go.

He might surprise.

I thought that Max was not bad when we drafted him, but he has certainly exceeded my expectations. He has played consistently very well in all of his games this year and definitely deserves his rising star nomination.
I have to confess, I had no idea what to expect. I hadn’t followed him that closely and I think I was overseas when the draft was in so was surprised when I saw he went at 17.

Have been even more surprised by how clean he is. Love his body work to stop opponents getting the loose ball.

Maybe it’s just the perspective, but it looked hella good when I saw it on TV. I guess his footy smarts and understanding of the game is really what’s impressing me. Knowing when to defend, and then knowing when to attack and then distribute the ball quite effectively. Just makes you feel safe whatever the contest or wherever he gets the ball.

TBF, he looked a super prospect playing at Rostrevor and that he cracked the Norwood league side that won the flag last year showed he had something special

Talking about 1.19

I had to laugh today

This morning I messaged the tour company (airport transfer) asking whether I should wait curbside of in reception for my 7:30 pickup.

I got an email at 8:49 saying - wait in reception.

Cool. I'm already at the airport waiting. But come on. Replying 1h19m after scheduled pickup? Cmon man.

Lever I think showed a bit more offensively straight up but I think Max has looked far better defensively. It could just be because a lot of time has passed but I'm more excited about Max than Lever (who is a very very good player & hurt to lose) off the first 5 games. Only real mistake I think Max made was against GWS & it was mostly a squibbed Dawson kick in than his fault.
He also put a kick 5m over Smith's head that led to aFreo goal. Was straight after a great intercept mark though.
