Does anyone watch the show? Anyway last night they did the greatest bands, here's the list:

Essential 20 Greatest Bands
20. Nirvana
19. R.E.M
18. Pearl Jam
17. Eurythmics
16. INXS
15. Duran Duran
14. Bon Jovi
13. The Police
12. Bee Gees
11. Fleetwood Mac
10. Pink Floyd
9. AC/DC
8. Beach Boys
7. ABBA
6. The Eagles
5. Led Zeppelin
4. U2
3. Queen
2. The Rolling Stones
1. The Beatles

Agree? Disagree? Any changes?

I would've taken out the Eurythmics, The Police, Duran Duran and replaced them with Aerosmith, Black Sabbath and Guns N Roses.

I would've put Led Zeppelin before U2 and moved Nirvana up to atleast before the Bee Gees. I would've put Black Sabbath and Aerosmith in the top 10 had they been named in the first place.

I would have put 20 completely different bands.

Good to see you leave out the most overrated band of all time. The Stones.

Honest to God, I don't understand the hype about them. I enjoy 'Paint it Black', can stand 'Satisfaction' and very much dislike the rest of their work.

Ordinary musos (has their ever been a worse drummer in such a big band?) and an appalling lead vocalist. Some iconic riffs, good marketing and wicked production in their live shows, but thats it.

The band your avatar fronted would be in my list. U2 would be out, they are my least favourite band of all time.

The police are horrible IMO. Their music is so monotone it would put anyone to sleep. The rest I can deal with, although personally I'd like to see GnR and Chisel included. They probably shouldn't be, but I like them, therefore they should be there :p

Here here! Incredibly underrated Blondie, have some killer pop songs that have never dated. And Clem Burke is one of the greatest 'pop/punk' drummers of all time. Definitely deserve to be top 20 at least.

Would probably leave out Pearl Jam and The Police, just a personal taste thing, dont really rate either of them. Would replace them with the Doors, Animals, the Cure and/or the Stooges

Totally agree. I've never gotten into U2, think they are pretty overrated to be honest. So to Bon Jovi.

This would probably be my list:

Charlie is an incredible drummer... You don't need flashy fills or trills to be considered a good drummer. Keith Richards isn't one of the most talented guitarists on the planet, but he's one of the best because he plays from the heart. It's easy to rock, but it's hard to roll, and nobody does it better than Keith. The guy IS rock and roll. Also, you obviously haven't payed much attention to Mick Taylor's playing when he was in the band. He played some absolutely amazing lead. It was a real shame that he left. You should watch Ladies and Gentlemen to get a glimpse of how great he sounded live.

Mick's voice actually isn't that bad, but keep in mind the Stones were primarily a blues band before they evolved into the arena rock band that they basically are today, which unfortunately is a shell of what they really are. To be a good blues musician you don't need to be the best at anything other than singing the blues, and Jagger was able to introduce black music to a whole generation with his voicce.

The thing with the Stones is that you need to take context into consideration when you listen to their records. If you do that then there is no way they are overrated. Sure most of their stuff after about 74 is crap, but I don't think any band can really match the streak of amazing music they produced from 66 to 72. You may not like their music (and that's ok, each person likes different music), but their sound and lifestyle changed the face of world during one of it's most crazy, confusing and evolving times.
