Eddie: Hey Nick, who's that bloke over there?

Nick: That's Dale Thomas.

Eddie: Who's Dale Thomas?

Nick: He's a Carlton player.

Eddie: Well WTF is he doing wearing a Collingwood jumper?

Nick: We're in an old photo, he used to play for us.

Eddie: Well I don't give a stuff what his excuse is. I don't want to see Carlton players wearing Collingwood jumpers. Go tell him to take it off!

Nick: No worries Eddie, leave it with me, I'll have a word to him.

Eddie: Onya Nick, you're a good bloke. I reckon you'll be CEO running the joint one day!

I nearly cried in laughter. love it! haha

Can anyone else see a future in which just about every important position within the club is filled by a former Collingwood player that's been retained and earmarked for role? Like your Maxwell's, Balls, Pendleburys are to be retained for coaching and corporate positions, much like we kept buck's in the wings.

It sounds kind-of crazy but maybe that's one of the reasons we've become so serious about culture: we're trying to create an environment in which we create our own leaders, and ensure that everyone from the top to the bottom of the club bleeds black and white. It sounds a bit far fetched but i wouldn't be surprised if that's the way we're headed. A pure collingwood "bloodline" would be the true epitome of us against them :p

I'd really prefer that we didn't head down such a linear and deliberate path to be honest. I completely agree with you in terms of creating and nurturing strong leaders at the club. That is hugely important. Otherwise you end up with club captains like Judd and Murphy and no one wants that. I also agree that it's great to keep our best and brightest involved if they are the best for the job. BUT, when it comes to the sorts of business decisions that are made by CEOs and their senior staff, I would prefer to hire the best and if they follow Collingwood then it's a double win.

Eddie does seem to want to hold onto - or draw back - ex-captains. Bucks being an obvious example, plus Burnsy's recent return. The internal nurturing of strong leaders is critically important, but I agree that attracting the best to work in key positions in administration and the football dept is equally important.

Coach IMO, not sure id want him coaching us though, I don't like ex players coaching players they played with, almost always ends in disaster, Woosha's the only one I can think of who's won a flag in doing so, probably 1 or 2 others, (modern era).

Lol, that is eddies way of softening the blow for losing the captaincy.

With all respect to Maxy (love him to death) the day he is CEO, joffa will be president

If Eddie's making such a claim to just soften the blow, he needs to give it away now. Alternatively, BIGNEDKELLY, got NFI.

I see Maxy as some of the best coaching material currently playing the game.
Winner. I will put my life savings on Maxy being a coach if he wants it. If not, media.

To add I have no life savings but I had no other analogy to prove how sure I am

You could have also put your left nut on it.

Its hanging on by a thread. :)

At least it is still there. I have been married for ten years and I suspect that mine are no longer operational.

^^^ that is gold. Actually reads like a real conversation with Ed ;)

Before Nick was captain has was quoted as saying he wanted to be club president one day. Back in 2007 I think.

Watch your back Ed ;)

Not sure why the dislike for Nick in a post career role at the Pies its not like Eddie was promising him the CEO role in two years time.
Have no idea what Nick does outside of football apart from some media work.
Does anyone have some actual facts to aid in the discussion?

Those that tell don't know
And those that know don't tell
