Not sure the type of people who read this board, probably not those in the market for mid-range sports cars, but here goes anyway...

I'm in the market for a new car. Initially I was gunna go bmw but now the RX-8 has caught my eye and I'm wondering what people think of it. Not sure what the last RX-7 was but this new RX-8 has a 171kw 1308cc rotary which puts out 211nm's of torque at 5500revs. I drove the old RX-7 and the turbo was amazing, loved the noise it made too. At $62k it's cheaper than the old model too. 6.2secs 0-100 is sharp.

What do people think of the new RX-8??? Any other suggested options in this price range that can go with this car?

Bainuzz and I were talking about the RX-8 yesterday. He wants one too. I was just about to look up how much they were.

Spooky......

Seems like a reasonable price for that kind of car.

My good mate has a Lotus Elise... sweetest piece of mechanic craftmanship on Earth...
However, it is the closest thing you will find to driving in a sardine tin... it's extremely rattly... but eh whatever does it for you...

RX8s are a mighty fine looking car indeed...

How does that compare to the WRX? A mate of mine had one of those, they go like the clappers. He racked up a lot of speeding tickets though.

It is a sardine tin. Made out of aluminum, it's one of, if not, the lightest prodcution cars ever made.

Heh, my mate uses it for racing... it's bright yellow, the sexiest thing on wheels...

I'm female and about 5'9, and let me tell you, getting into that car is a long way down and i'm not exactly tall...

I got in it and I just assumed that he stripped it down for lighter racing and heightened speeds, but oh no it just came like that...

I've never been in an RX8, but it sure as hell looks more comfortable...

WRX sti version is a dohc with variable valve timing 2.0ltr 4 cylinder, puts out 195kw @ 6000revs and goes 1-100 in 5.45seconds. It's about $60k on road.

RX-8 isn't as quick and it's more expensive.

So much to consider.

I'd suggest an old Valiant given that you come across as a prime candidate for road rage.:D

Never got mad driving a car in my life Fred, it doesn't make any sense to me. How does anyone know what the other driver is doing at any particular time? It's not logical to get angry at a situation where you don't know all the facts. Actually I lie, I have got mad whilst driving before, but only at those braindeads who get road rage first for no good reason. No reason to be mean and nasty in life, just gives you cancer, doesn't cost a cent to be patient and polite.

Nah, get an old Peugeot. Built like a tank, very safe and totally theft-proof - nobody wants 'em.

Carlton supporters and cars? Only one choice my friend VL Commodore ;) have you doing 11 second quarters in 2 days.

I love the rotaries and the RX 8 is one fine looking automobile.

The best place to ask opinions on such matters is aus.cars on usenet.

You just don't get it do you.

I do a few nice things in life Pred, probably more for charity this year than you've done in your entire life actually. I am nice to everyone I meet, and I'm obsessively honest. I go to bat for my workers and forward them any increase that I can secure from my clients, without prompting. Speak to any of my drivers and they'll pledge absolute loyalty, almost unheard of in the transport industry. But I can also turn savagely on those I perceive as being greedy without consideration, rude, unnecessarily aggressive, racist, and money hungry. And I definitely have no time for smart arse ****ers who stir trouble unnecessarily, like you in this thread for example. If more people were like me, trust me, the world would be a much kinder and more caring place to live.

Now go on, take the **** smart alec.

My Dads got an RX-8, absolutely awesome car.

Give ya's the details:

Titanium (definatly the colour you want, class)
Red and black leather interior
6 speed manual
Twin 1.3 litre
Cruise control, power steering, 6 stacker etc. etc.

May be getting a rear spoiler and side skirts at first serice, though it looks good enough as is.

The rotarys awesome. A fair bit different to a normal engine in the sound it makes (doesnt really have the "talk" that a V8 does, but still sounds awesome)and the the way it has to be driven. The thing I love about this car is the acceleration and the handling. It flies. When I drove it for the first time it was simply overwhelming, your speeding before you know it. Another really good thing is that its family friendly. I'm 6 foot and fit in the back seat without a problem.

Its done around 700kms so far, absolutely loving it, go for a test drive if you can.
