Mcdevitt says AFL tribunal just got it wrong

Like these bits:

Amid calls for the WADA code to be more applicable for team sports, and Madigan's criticism of CAS that it does not fall under Australian law, McDevitt said there was a "fallacy out there that it [WADA code] doesn't apply to team sports".

He pointed out that of the 85 sports under the ASADA code in Australia, more than 30 "have a team element and 18 of them are pure team sports".

McDevitt also raised sports overseas.

"Is it good enough for the English Premier League but not good enough for the AFL to have an option of going to the Court of Arbitration for Sport?" he said.

Sir Ben Mcdevitt today said in senate estimates that the AFL just got it wrong and that he saved taxpayers $1M by going straight to WADA on appeal.

This is interesting

"The Australian newspaper reported on Friday that four players to have signed on for Thymosin injections were not prosecuted.

Of those four, two denied having injections in interviews with ASADA and AFL investigators but, according to the Australian, a further two were never interviewed."

Didn't we suspect as much? We knew Hal Hunter had received injections but didn't sign the consent form. We also knew others (but not who or how many) had signed the consent forms but didn't get infraction notices. The assumption was they either didn't get injections, or they told ASADA they didn't get injections. Hird is now quoted as saying some of them lied and that those that told the truth were penalised while those that lied, were not. The problem is when you run an injection program and have no records of who got what, it's impossible to know. I wonder how those that are now sitting out of the game for twelve months feel about those who didn't tell the truth and are now free to play? There are more stories to come out of this yet.

The two who did not have interviews are also interesting, why were they not followed up.

just because Cricket Australia, FFA, NRL, and the EPL have all signed up to the WADA code does not mean it will work for team sports like AFL. the AFL is special, it is from Victoria AUS !!! hasnt the world seen the run rabbit run commercial!?! and the giant ball of string!!?! sporting capital of THE WORLD!!!

Could explain why Zaha was dropped from the leadership group if was getting injections, lied about it and is now free to play.

Australian reported one is now in the EFC leadership group...

Not quite, the article in today's paper states than one of the four that wasn't charged is still a senior player at Essendon, but it doesn't state that he was one of the two who weren't interviewed.

All we know about the two that didn't attend an interview is that one wasn't available on the day of his scheduled interview and the other one was sick on the day of his scheduled interview.
