The Hawthorn Football Club today finalised its playing list ahead of the AFL’s National, Pre-season and Rookie drafts.
Second year rookie Luke McEntee has been promoted to the primary list for 2008 while Matt Suckling has been offered a second year rookie contract.
Other 2007 rookies Brett Collins and Sam Gibson have been delisted but have been offered the opportunity to train with the Club over the summer in a bid to be re-drafted in the December Rookie Draft.
Other changes to the Hawthorn list include the delistings of Matt Little and Josh Thurgood and the retirements of Richie Vandenberg, Ben Dixon and Joel Smith.
Hawthorn has three selections in the November AFL National Draft (picks 12, 29, 45) and four selections in the Rookie Draft (picks 11, 27, 43, 59).

Thought i would seperate this from the other thread which was merely a discussion on whether people thought he would be promoted.
Congratulations to Luke, i look forward to seeing more of him in 08.
People's thoughts on the retention of Suckling and the delisting of Collins and Gibson?? Most people on here were of the opinion that Suckling was most likely to be delisted, something i thought was more than likely also.

I think most people had Suckling as a delisting because of the "Channel 7" issue.

I must admit I'm really not sure what to make of McEntee. I read an article in the Herald Sun before the 2005 draft which had him as a potential top 10 selection and was surprised when he fell through to the rookie draft. Then I read here that most people don't particularly rate him as a future player. I haven't seen enough of him to make a definitive opinion.

Like most of what I say, I don't really know a lot about our rookies, but from the segments of clips I saw on Collins, I thought he had the potential to play AFL. Gibson didn't struck me as overly classy and Suckling I heard a few good things about.. but looks kinda strange. So in conclusion you wasted your time reading my post. Thankyou.

Congratulations Luke well deserved and I was happy to finally see confirmation of the elevation. I have been pushing for him to be elevated for quite a while now (not that me pushing makes any difference what so ever).

Gibson was never going to make the cut, he was a solid all rounder but didn't have anything special that set him aside. I would say if Collins gets through the first part of pre season unscathed and can show his body can hold up I think we will try to rookie list him again. If his body does hold up though I can see the saints coming in and nabbing him before we get a chance. His ability is up to it but don't know if his body is, he is very young to be having the injury problems that he has.

Suckling may have had some off feild problems but he is one of the best kicks of a football I have seen in a very long time. He has huge penetration on his kick and it is very accurate, I'm sure AC and the boys would have put the wind up him and let him know he is on very thin ice. They may have scared him straight.

I like the look of McEntee. He's a ruckman in the Jeff White mold. He has a very high leap and is a very good palmer of the ball. But he needs to do a lot more work around the ground to become an AFL player. There'll obviously be a lot of pressure for the ruck position at the Hawks now that we have 5 young ruckman on the list.

hmm, whether thats true or not, his involvement, i dont know, many dont but speculate methinks, but as i have said before he showed commitment to the club by rejected Sydney's offer to join their rookie list so as to have a chance to join ours

he was also picked up, partly because of his kicking effeciency, which i still think we need to improve

Nice one, McEntee looks the goods from what i've seen so far. Does that mean we have 5 ruckmen on the senior list? McEntee, Bailey, Renouf, Taylor and Campbell?

yep, and notably all are 25 and under, long time for all, so itll be interesting

and they are all rekatively different moulds,
McEntee - tap and endurance,
Robbie - strong at the contests, and especially tackling and and throw-ins
Taylor - more of a tap ruckman, with great work ethic despite some disposal errors
Bailey - havent seen enough of him to label him with traits, but got the height for more of a tap, endurance ruckman like McEntee but much taller, nearly 10cm
Renouf - most agile and probably versatile of ruckmen despite age, position in side/on ground not cement at all

i dont think luke will last but congrats on being promoted. I have seen him play for box hill, easily pushed off the ball.

suckling came with huge raps st kilda where after him as well as sydney, hope for the best.

Collins huge chance to be picked up as rookie needs to add weight.

again i hope luke does really well and gives it too me if he makes it

Ripper. Good potential, good work ethic and a huge leap. He's a basketball convert and is really growing under the tutelage of the "ruck academy".

Good area of the squad to have ruck depth.

Added over 10kg to his body weight this year, that was a pretty big improvement.
