Buckley won a Brownlow at 30 years old, so why not Macca too. It's the only honour he hasn't got so far, even though he should have had one!! Well done Macca, a class act and the high priest of the big games!!

I love Andrew. I think he is fabulous. He played will in the International Series and deserved his award.

However, if I have a critisism of him, it is that I honestly don't think he puts in 100% ALL the time. Sometimes I'd love to shove a rocket right up his **** just to get him moving. When HE wants to he can tear a game apart.

I'll probably be shot...but its just my opinion.

no that's a fair comment - but the strange thing is when the stakes are high he's performed - look at his growing medal count.

All he needs now is a Brownlow (but I suspect his time has passed :( )

Very true. If its a big game, he generally stands up tall.

Thought I would have a gander at the old crows board :) Anyway I think that Mcleod is a fanastic player (one of my fav non-eagles player) and the way he played in the IR was admirable (it was always funny seeing the Irish fall trying to tackle him and miss-was too fast for them :D ), I really think that he still has a chance to win the Brownlow if he keeps consist next year. On saying that there were at least two times he should have won it.

yes macca was fantastic wasnt he, i think we may of made a mistake appointing roo as captain, as leadership seems to bring the best out of macca. While roo would always have his physical presence as captain or no captain. Perhaps sheedy is a great coach for him too, just got the right amount of aggression and leadership and let him play his natural game. Even though it is a different game he certainly is being under utilised with us atm.

Jack how could we have possibly made the mistake of appointing Roo as captain when he is widely considered as one of the best, if not the best captain in the AFL.

not really a mistake, but its clear leadership takes maccas game to another level. Leadership doesnt have to be physical. Roo you feel would have the presence he does as captain or not. One thing is he appears to be a bit like carey was as captain, in that he drags his teamates along with him rather than being a outgoing leader. As captain macca appeared to be a natural to me, despite being quiet off field. Its a different game ofcourse but it appears we are under utilising his leadership abilities.

If you look at his Brownlow stats for the last 3 or so years even though by us we've considered them to be largely sub standard he's still been among the highest few crows in terms of votes despite playing less than 10 great games a year.

IMO if Norm can have around 15 above average games in a season he gets noticed enough by the Umpires to win the medal.

Has there ever been a better big game player than Macca?

macca is brilliant but my first thought when you said that was James Hird, the biggest big game player and Carey would probably be up infront of Macca too i would say.

you say that,
but as an example he has played 3 GF (2 x day, 1 x night) and he was won the medal in each. not 2nd best, not 3rd best, but BOG each time.

that's unprecedented.

I agree Hird and Carey have been great occasion players too, but I wouldn't dismiss macca so easily.

Macca certainly has a habit of producing the goods on the big stage. He's a gun, there is no doubt.

However Roo is not only our best captain, he is the best captain in the AFL. There is no way we should even consider replacing the best captain in the competition with anyone, Macca included.

As far as the Brownlow is concerned, Macca can still win one, but he'd better pull his finger out and do it next season.

I doubt that he actually understands the concept of what is required to be a captain. Being a great player is very different to being a great captain.

Ah, plain, unadulturated dribble once again. Seem to recall you calling for Macca's head a couple of seasons ago, so your memory lapses have come to the forefront again.

No one in their right mind (and that doesnt include you) would say that Roo isnt the one the all the best captain we ever had and will have for some time to come.

I know you just say these stupid things to get a reaction, but even for you this is too stupid to contemplate.
