While Hewitt has found new romance, it is believed his close friend Andrew McLeod has split with his wife Rachel, with whom he has two children.

It is believed the AFL star is staying at Hewitt's luxury Adelaide home

Layton is chasing Bec Cartright

I wonder if this will make a difference to Mcleods game this year

Been done a bit over a week ago.

Leave the bloke alone.
FFS, some things are private and should remain private even for high profile people.

I agree, but unfortunately the media think they have the right to report on footballers personal lives and make the details public.

As far as I am concerned, professional athletes can shag/date/see whoever they want, just dont let it affect your on field performance.

That is the price of fame I am afraid, all people in high profile positions are acountable on and off the field, not that I am saying anything in regard to his divorce, but if you run the line that what is done off the field stays off the field then why was there such a fuss over the Port player stacking his car whilst drunk etc.

They are accountable for everything they do on and off the field when they play in an elite comp be it football, cricket, rugby union - look at the fuss over Mat Rodgers pushing a bloke over in Scotland, nothing to do with his on field performance.

I think Macca only got mentioned as he is a close mate of Leytons anyway and it was a throw away line

I will still be interested to see how he performs in 2005 noting he has had a couple of average years by his standards

Dont get me wrong, I am more interested in her as well, just thought that some of the replies about stay out of his personal life etc were a bit unrealistic noting his profession and all that goes with it.

I note that no one has said anything about layton chasing bec ie what he does of the court etc. Good luck to the boy, and wouldnt mind changing places, as his last girlfriend looked like she came from the Shrek movie

Well each to their own opinions but I for one can use better english than that.

Some of you people must live in a fairy world I think based on your comments. You are quite happy to slag of at poor players, other teams etc but you are very touchy when it comes to Macca.

I still stand by my comments in that in this day and age with the money they are on there whole life is a fishbowl and they all realise it, and to say leave one alone in his private life and yet watch others on TV for drunk driving etc is a bit two faced.

In the end it makes no difference to me what he does in his private life, I just hope it may bring some form reversal, as if your not happy at home it tends to effect your work life which for him is football, and noting the money he is on I would suggest that the club expect him to perform to standard

There is a line. A fine line perhaps, but it is there nevertheless.
By being high profile one becomes a role model by default. Things like fights, drink driving, being womanisers etc are fair game IMO. That is the price one pays.
However, things like family break ups are not IMO.

I would agree with you. I was presenting a media report and only spoke about his performance in the football arena.

The whys, wherefores etc of his domestic life do not concern me, but his on field performance and the money that the AFC pay him to produce that performance concern me, and as his payed that money to perform. His personnel life has some relevance to the whole situation. A fine line it is but at the end of it all, if your being payed 400K or whatever per year I would be expecting better things from him next year for that sort of money. He won the norm smiths in 97 and 99 which will be six years on next year, you can only rest on your reputation for so long ???????????

And of note, look at Wayne Carey, if people want to lecture about staying out of personnel lives etc, why did people crucify him for his actions when it was "his personnel life away from football". I think we have to be even handed about the whole afair and its all about being in the public spot light.

A hypothetical question, he may be a womaniser, we don't know but my point was that he must expect some form of scrutiny as do they all in a high profile sport.

My main point in the initial post is that I hope he plays a better brand of football than the last two years, as he is payed a lot of money to play a better game than he has.
I watched him at the games in WA and he looked pretty disinterested having seen him play in Adelaide from 97 to the end of 99

It doesnt matter who you are in this game, you can rest on your reputation for so long, and then you have to perform!!!!!

People in real life get the sack if you dont, and so do footballers even though he is touched with gold it gets tarnished after a while

I will never question his magical ability with the ball and I love to watch him bust a pack and kick goals but he hasnt done a lot of it in the last 2 or 3 years

It's actually between 500-550 per year. In 2005 he has to prove he is worth that sort of money.

Yeah how unusual that a starlet like cartrwright would want to date a multi-millionaire sportsman who is blonde and successful. Seems Home and away doesn't bring home enough bacon, especially when your music career was about a week long;)

ok, this is what I object to. how should I say it - crap? yeah that'll do.
who the **** do you think you are determining what is and isn't intrusive into someone else's life?
this is the sort of mentality that accompanies these weekly gossip magazines that create and cannabolise celebrity. You would have to be a sandwich short to believe people in the public eye have signed some sort of pyschological contract that allows people to invade their lives just because they have become figures of interest.

Look mate you must live in a dream world, its all part and parcel of the world they live in, they have to take the good with the bad, and in his case along with the 500k + comes the bad of being under public scrutiny I dont say its good or bad, and I dont really give a rats ass what is going on with his wedded life, but my angle is that he is payed a bucket load of money to perform in his job, and to be honest he has not come any where near that in the last two season.

People can come up with what ever reasons for his poor performances, but as an example some one like Robert Harvey from the Saints perfroms year in year out, so why cant macca. Thats all I am saying, and as I said in another post you dont see people complaining about laytons latest attraction seeing he is our no 1 ticket holder. Along with the glowing comments in the press the players must expect the negative side of life and any player that doesnt needs a reality check.

I work in a world were our slightest shortcomings can make the news, and I didnt ask for it when I took on the job but its part of the life I lead and after a short period in my profession I realised that this is the way it works, dont agree with it but it is part of the job, and I have to watch myself

Why dont you have a look at the posts that were flying around for weeks about Mark Bickley last year.

spot on. he is paid a lot of money to do a job. nothing else.

well this ties in nicely with my personal point of view. IMO the reason people make these additional 'demands' is because of jealously. I might be wrong, but I have always thought this. What you are really doing here is b*tching because you don't think he deserves his salary; which has nothing to do with whether you are entitled to intrude upon his personal life.

yeah, yeah...

so what's your point, what about that makes it right? all you have said it happens. plenty happens in the world that isn't right.
