No Clangers?? He had 4.

Nash and NLM are aggressive. NLM will run and take players on gaining 30-40 metres then he will kick it making the occaisional mistake. McPhee gets it stops, props and then still makes occaisional mistakes.
Probably all free icks against, which means he can still have 100% effectiveness.

McPhee has had an ordinary year (or two) IMO

Hasnt been terrible but is capable of so much more. Not sure whether it's his confidence but he makes some shocking decisions and doesn't push forward enough. Probably more suited to a run on the wing, not doing much anywhere else..

He has had a terrible year compared to 2004. But if he never got AA, and we didnt know what he was totally capable of, thene we would more than likely be saying he has had a fairly good year.

Our problem is that we keep comparing him to 2004. It is 3 years on. We cant keep comparing him to then. We just have to look at his form on a game to game basis.

Spot on, they create momentum McPhee kills momentum (IMO - on current form). We need run from the backline and he isnt giving it, nor is he a solid defender

Any examples you'd care to share with us because Champion Data happen to disagree.

Ball Skills;
Fumble, fumble, fumble!
Thats all he ever does when hes in space he gets the ball kicked to him lands a couple of meters in front of him, takes two - three attempts of picking up the ball finally does then turns around and gets tackled - Holding the ball. This happens not just once nor twice but on countless occasions. Very rarely do I see him take the ball cleanly and then deliver a clean pass that goes straight to an Essendon player.

Decision Making Skills;
When we are making a play the ball falls into McPhees arms a number of times, in order to make the play we need to move the ball on quickly while our players are free. He hesitates and doesn't know what to do with it and before to long all our players are manned up, so he kicks back to one of our loose men behind the ball.

These two things that I have just mentioned happen way to much and these skills need to be improved in order for him to stay in the seniors - But I guess he is to busy caring about his body, hair and clothes shop.

Put him up on the trade table if we are offered a first or second round pick for him, take it. Otherwise keep him up, also I think he signed a contract late last year for a three year deal, would I be correct?

Gilbee, Enright, Heath Shaw, Jason Gram, Kennely, McLeod, all play half back and do it well, all running types. McPhee isn't up with these blokes in terms of speed and doesn't have the ticker to play CHB.
Maybe he could be better utilised in a forward pocket until his form comes back, as he does take a good mark and may just stretch a few teams defences.

I thought he was good. Worked hard and gave it his all. I think there would be many, many, players that would warrant criticism before McPhee.

I agree. Gave him my one vote. He kept at it and played competitively and kept presenting at every opportunity.

He is extremely frustrating! He would be a good player in a good side in my opinion, however in an inexperienced side like ours he isn't delivering enough. Athleticism outweighs his footy smarts I'm afraid :eek: Probably tradeable if there was something worthwhile in return

They are all completely different players to McPhee.
You're comparing apples with oranges.

Better comparisons are Hargrave, C Bolton, Harley, Clement, S Fisher and Bock from the teams you mentioned.

And bar Hargrave - I would take all of them over McPhee.

McPhee is another that I think Sheedy has right royally stuffed. Played well in 04 on HBF - since then - he has played Hf wing centre CHB HBF etc. Not settled, not good enough to throw around the ground (I remember the article with him saying he'd like to be Essendons next Hird ala being able to play anywhere - ha what a joke that is now).

My main problem with him is one of the main culprits to go missing when we the opposition gets a run on - and he turns the ball over terriblly under pressure. No composure anymore.

He reminds me a lot of Lloyd - playing without any confidence.

Agree that he has been played out of position alot by Sheedy. He did the same to Solly.

Of course, after the salary cap exodus of 01/02 our midfield got gutted. From 03-present our midfield has had more flankers in it than midfielders.

You are missing the point, McPhee plays half back, they all play half back, and they all play that role better than he does.
All the players you mentioned play key position adequately for their teams, McPhee gets toweled up by blokes that are similar in size and strength. He still falls short of them all.

Trading McPhee for a draft pick would be pointless at best. We have a solid number of quality youngsters coming through already, we don't need more kids to get back to finals footy we need classy players which McPhee is. More kids will only further delay our improvement. McPhee is still only middle aged, an AA and getting back into solid form. Regardless of his countless detractors here he's been among our best all season and theres plentyu of guys ahead of him who need to be traded on current form who have had their chances. Lovett, Lovett-Murray, Johns to name a few. Nash is the only other half back flanker capable of midfield bursts like McPhee and able to have a run up forward so utilities arent something we have an excess of.

well im not into bagging our own players and i wont but mcphee to me plays outside of his ability sometimes......a couple of years ago when he won the b/f he didnt just played the game inside his own limitations.....i think that that win went to his head a bit and has been running around like a prima donna....needs to get back to playing that footy and be more discipline or he will find himself on the scrapheap

You would not meet a more dedicated, professional footballer than McPhee.

his game yesterday was one of many crappy displays!! undisciplined, skills letting him down and not accountable. Is there a problem or is he just havin a year to forget??even though i love watchin him when hes up and going is he tradeable??

:thumbsdown:NO NO NO:thumbsdown: He is a required player he has not been that bad this year. Just needs to be more disciplined at times cannot afford to let a player of his quality out of our club.:thumbsdown:
