Rookies as follows
G Chivers - Oakleigh Chargers Round 1
L Miles - Swan Districts Round 2
A McQualter - St Kilda Round 3
K Haretuku - NSW School Round 4

Some pretty odd picks here - a rower who hasn't played much footy, a mature aged recruit from WA who is pacy but doesn't seem to have seen much of the footy from the Swan Districts website (only two games of 20+ possesions), a guy who's already had 3 years on our list, and a rugby player (although wouldn't mind if he was as good as Gilbert).

Interestingly saw the Wulf man has been kicking goals at Swan Districts.

Won the B&F for Swans this year though Squizzy. Plays mainly full back so that's why not huge posession games. Gets thrown forward on occasions. Swans are a mediocre side at present, played in a WAFL prelim final 3-4 years ago but been out of finals last couple of years so he's been under the pump down back, let me tell you, i've watched most of those games and I have been offering my 7yo as a defender just to block up the spaces. Don't worry, he'll be alright IMO. He'll work hard for it, that's for sure.

What I don't understand about picking Mini back up is why there was that interview with him in the Hun a little while back, where he said Ross had shown him the door and he was looking forward to a fresh start. Is it a change of heart, or were the two of them trying to blow smoke so nobody suspected we'd take him back (and thus snatched him from us)? Seems just a little strange. Still, best of luck to him.

OK - good to hear he can play. Hopefully will find a role, as he doesn't have the height at full back for many of the AFL forwards - Fevola, Brown, McGregor, Hall etc.

Think he was training with Hawthorn, so don't think there was any mind games. He's lucky to get a spot back, for sure. The rookie rules seem a bit odd to me, as someone who has been on an AFL list for 3 years seems too experienced to be a rookie anyway.

Well the 'rookie' title is a tad misleading, as anyone aged under 23 can be on the rookie list, as well as clubs being able to take a mature rookie (someone 23 or older who has not been on a list before)

There were some extreme examples picked up today, Fremantle picked up a guy they delisted a couple of years ago, Tristen Cartledge was delisted by Essendon a year ago and spent a year playing VFL before being picked up today, and apparently Beau Wilkes is now on his 3rd rookie list in four years

Not really happy about picking up McQualter again, I really hope he can prove us wrong but IMO he just isn't up to it....

We really need to hope that Steven or Armo can come good so that we can have a damaging midfield going into the future... Dal, Gram, Ball, Montagna etc. are all young enough so we have a good starting block, another hardnut midfielder and all rounder would be helpful...

if we had not picked him up the saints would have had to pay him out for 2008 as he was contracted for 2008.

Heard today from a very good source that the accountants had a bit of brain snap. Paying out MacQualter would have put us 50k over the salary cap, hence why we forced to pick him back up. I don't think we'll be seeing much of him in Saints colours next year.........

I think clubs need to have their player payment positions vetted in conjunction with the AFL before participating in the draft, so if there was a **** up then the AFL would have already known about it.
