Wickliffe Lake Bolac u17s have just folded for the season. Played on the ground many times, this view is awesome

Back in the day Lake Bolac High had approximately 280 in the School compared to the meagrely 180 at Bow River. Beating the Bolac boys in footy was a big deal. I did put on a master class one day on the DC in front of a few scouts and got an invite to a Carlton Draft game as we overcame the might of Bolac that had 4 kids drafted later that year. Lake Bolac P12 College has less than 70 kids now. An area that once had 100 farming families is now farmed by 4 organisations. It is that simple.

Wow that’s a big decline. We used to do all our school sports against them and they were always strong. You hate to see it.

As per Munners who I must say is all over everything South West Vic and South East SA. Dennington struggling bad. Played there myself for a small time. All I can say is it wasn’t for me, at all. But still plenty of good volunteers around the club. The chat is could they go to SWDFNL. What would the travel be like for them to go into MDFNL? Similar?

They are not going to the SWDFNL - that is rubbish talk

The WDFNL spent a lot of coin getting a review done last year which told them they needed to go to Under 11’s, Under 13’s, Under 16.5’s and Under 18’s.

They have made decisions based upon bad data.

How are Panmure, Nirranda, Heytesbury and Kolora Noorat (amongst others) be expected to have 100 juniors?

It is insane.

Profligation and doubling up of juniors is killing the game but no one seems to want to deal with the issue.

There just aren’t the kids wanting to play past the age of 15, unless they go ok.

Does it make any sense for a Warrnambool team to play in the South West? A lot more travel, I guess the junior standard is lower and easier to field.

Having U18.5 in a district league is wild, it might boost the participation numbers but it doesn't do much for the seniors.

Nil, none, just ridiculous - lunatics are running the asylum and it will end in tears

I agree w Royboy as the same thing is happening here in city, plenty juniors but by 15 a lot of them quit cos they realise they a battler. Other things they can be doing. Also as Royboy points out it is a numbers game and the numbers in regional are slim. I’ll throw in my 2 cents and say this decline has been happening for a long time and if it wasn’t for generous farmers and other ex players and community fight then a lot more clubs would already be gone.

When the end comes it will come very quickly, it’s almost here for this region. We will be like the US within a generation with minimal Senior Community Sport. Take Tennis as your example, cricket and footy following down the same track.

Central Highlands and Ballarat FL have many unique jumpers. In four weeks I haven’t seen an AFL jumper design yet which is brilliant.
What’s the best site to look at all the diff league jumpers? I used to look at country footy scores but now the icons are little question marks!

Prior to the hawkesdale Macarthur merger, hawkesdale were the cats. Wearing blue and white hoops. But I’ve just seen the 1966 premiership guernsey and it’s black and white stripes! I had no idea they used to wear this? Perhaps they were in a different league back in the day and had to change to the hoops Because of lake bolac? Munners

They were in the Port Fairy FL until 1969 so I guess they had to change to the Cats when they joined the Mininera. I would go to that reunion day if North Gambier wasn't on the same date.

Oh yeh of course they were 🤦 . But didn’t know they were the magpies. Past players day too. So should be a good turn out.

How do demons seconds get well beaten but the firsts give them a flogging ? Interesting result.

Two things at play - Demons 2nds had a reported 15 unavailable due to sewing. Lions had a number of stalwarts drop back in grade…creating the perfect storm
