Paul Medhurst has nominated for the Draft. Strange move at 29. Do you think he will be picked up?

Isn't the father son games played 150? He left us on 99 if I remember correctly.

From memory, it's 150 WAFL games or 100 AFL games. I think Wally Matera played 147 games at Souths which left him 3 short for us to pick up Brandon.

Yes, but there would be only a 10% chance Medhurst would play another 50 games for us and probably only 1% chance he would play another 100. I'd rather take the risk that a young player would turn into a star, thanks.

From our list management thread, it looks like we'll be using

Pick 71 -> Pass -> PSD: Zac Dawson
Pick 74 -> Rookie Upgrade: Nick Lower

I doubt we'd be using 58 on him, I imagine that we'd be targeting Tunbridge with that pick, so I just can't see how we'd get him.

Not necessarily, see Cousins' comeback as an example, but otherwise agree he's not a high chance of being picked up.

Hope he does get a run somewhere, always liked watching him do his thing, but I don't think there's a big chance of it happening.

Last time I looked our KO (IE. Key Objective ) should be about winning Premierships. Not 'developing blokes'.

If monkeyboy helps us win a Cup he's in.

If what I understand is Lyon's modus operandi then you could see him getting the old mirror treatment Someone is, or already has looked into it.

I was a fan of his. When he got the steak knives label I knew it was not close to his to his real value.

Still was a surprise he got AA.

Agree hes a good pickup BUT only for a team who needs a small forward who can push into midfield.

I would Play Ballantyne in that role before medders and it would be a toss of a coin betwenn Walters an medders.

Always been a Medhurst fan an was dissapointed to see him go.

Would rather get Turnbridge, Lee, Spur, Ah Che, Raikiwasa etc at 71. Pretty decent options.

Agree every day of the week & twice on sundays. Doesn't neccesarily have to be a youngster from the shallow draft pool either. There was a good list of WA mature age draftees in todays paper. Wonder if Blee would last until 71.

I remember before Connolly came up with all that rubbish about being a team player he destroyed some defenders. I remember games around 2003-2004 where he would routinely get the best defender.

Some of you oldies might remember he used to pull down some absolute screamers a la Daisy Thomas. Then someone must have told him to stop jumping on JLo's head because we never saw that side of his game again.

Its worth noting that BF Freo continues its tradition of way overvaluing draft picks versus players with an actual record of AFL achievement. I think with our midfield he could easily be 40 goals a year, and those kind of fellas don't grow on trees.

But sure we can pick another 18 year old and take a punt.

medhurst could possibly be the most selfish (on field), overrated player we have ever had... i didnt like him when he was at the club, adn would be mortified if we even gave this 1/10th of a second's thought
