Media Bias

On 6PR this arvo one of the subjects at hand was 'is the Perth media too biased towards the local sides'.

Supporters or other AFL clubs are lamenting the lack of news about their teams, however it was mentioned to try and get info about the Eagles or Dockers in the media over east, you may as well forget it. Try living in Adelaide, the bias there towards the Crows and Power is far worse, almost bordering on hysteria, here it is a bit more balanced IMO.

If anything I would rather hear more about the WAFL, it's clubs and the players who are up and coming rather than the eastern teams.

Any thoughts?

I think people think the media is a public service but it is not. Papers have to sell and people have to listen to radio shows in order for them to raise revenue through advertising. They are mainly there to earn money so it stands to reason that they try to give the public what they want and in WA most people want to hear about the Dockers and the Eagles. It is simply supply and demand.

The only hysteria in my life is my Def Leppard cassette.

When I 1st moved over here it used to really **** me when they just seemed to talk about the bloody Weagles & Frockers on the news.....but 3 1/2 years on now it doesn't really bother me. At least I don't have to listen to crap about the Cows!

But I agree, I'd love to hear more WAFL info on the news...never seem to hear any during the week.

You mean you replaced your Def Leppard cassettes with the higher quality CD for extra listening pleasure?

Damn right I have & I'll tell you something thats one good CD , Seems to have the extra oomph over the vinyl or cassette

Songs like Rocket , Gods of War etc should only be heard on CD

I am afraid I left my Def Leppard loving back in the late eighties and early nineties

I didn't even buy the CD to start wiht I just taped my mates CD.
