We really havent been acknowledged by the media for our wins, not that I'm unhappy as it keeps us more low key and less expectation to perform, however, it is just an observation.

Most journo's seem very reluctant to portray the fact that we won those games due to hard work, midfield pressure and goal kicking efficiency.
Absolutely owned Fremantle, but they had a dog of a day and they were just terrible and undermanned blah blah blah.
Kicked the ******** out of Port, only cuz they had a bad day or something, forgot what their excuse was, oh a premier ship hang over.
Carlton, we only won because Carlton were so inept.
It really suprises me why these supposed 'afl media experts' have failed to realize these teams playing so badly keep doing it against us, it is because we are owning them or is this just a coincidence ?

Exactly!

Maybe by the time everyone wakes up, it will be too late and we will be firmly entrenched in the top 8....

Not that we are getting ahead of ourselves!

I still think Richmond are a couple of solid wins away from any real media respect.

Yep... 5-2 with a couple of healthy wins under your belt, but it doesn't demand absolute media respect. Remember, you are coming off a craphouse season, and it will take a while for the media to realise your wins aren't lucky; at fault of the opposition or they just had a bad day.

However, being belted by St Kilda and Geelong would have doubts around the media. Both teams travelling well this season and both instigators of inflicting severe ass rapings upon you.

Next five games
Rd 08 - v Collingwood at the MCG
Rd 09 - v Brisbane at the Gabba
Rd 10 - v Melbourne at Telstra Dome
Rd 11 - v West Coast at the MCG
Rd 12 - v Kangaroos at Telstra Dome

Some massive games there. Come away with three or four wins there and then you will deservedly get the media respect.

However, it is always good to sneak under the radar. :)

Brisbane, Melbourne, West Coast & the Kangaroos.

Wow thats going to be a tough 4 weeks.

Pies game is crucial, we need to belt them and hope we score atleast 2 wins out of those 4 games above.

we'd be entitled to enter each one of those contests with at least even money chance....dont think for a minute that any of those opponents have pencilled our game in as a win

The point I am getting across is that the media do not acknowledge our teams efforts, all they say is how bad the other team are.

And what they're saying is "Let them"

Frawley in our finals year used to embarrass me with his whines about not getting media respect.

I used to think - shut up Frawley, and just worry about getting the win.

Kind of ironic he has none of it today.

Respect comes after a couple of years of success.

Wallace wont mind.

Other than the West Coast Criminals we'd be prety competitive against those teams. Brisbane aren't to be feared anymore. Melbourne and good but not consistent. Kangas are starting to slip. Predicting 3 wins out of the 5. Putting us at 8 - 4 after twelve rounds. Not out of the question.

Not wanting to put the moz on the Tiges, but lose all of the tough games coming up in the next month and we could very easily be sliding the way we did last year.

Not sure I can see them losing all of those, mind you the West Coast game is in Melbourne, likewise with the Adelaide game.

If had of played west coast yesterday and they played like they did today than we would have won. I'm always confident in beating WC at the G.

Respect is something that earned , not handed out like junk mail

Fact is , being the most poorly performed club over the last 20 years , we are not going to be feted as finals aspirants on the back of three or four good games .... and nor should we .

One word people " CONSISTENCY "

FFS people settle down

We are playing some exciting footy and all roads are pointing north but until it is sustained for a decent period of time there will always be question marks over our side , which at this stage , is the way i`d prefer it , lets keep it our little secret

if our losses had been more honourable then maybe we would be talked up more but lets face it barring the port game which we turned around, when we have had massive pressure applied (geelong and st kilda) we have been belted. i am hoping that we will improve in that area and when we have our next loss it will be a tighter game at least. we need consistency in every game, but then every team gets flogged once in a while, its too early in the season to really know where we sit imo.

I would much rather see the media get stuck into the Pies, Bombers and Carlton and let us go quietly on our way. I don't think they're disrespecting us on these occasions - the opposition we've played in Port, Freo and Carlton were probably better talking points with their form at the time. If we're thereabouts making the finals this year, they will have to positive in their analysis of us. Wait a bit longer and see how we go before we start demanding respect. We've been so bad for so long, it's not hard to understand why they're tentative in pushing our bandwagon. We'll just have to show 'em and consisently so.

I'm pretty happy flying under the radar so to speak, although it does get annoying not to see much written about us, I swear there were more paragraphs in the age on O'hAilpen than there were on us in total.

In the end, I think Terry has used the media well to boost memberships and confidence in the team, but isn't too worried about the 'respect' side of things. There's been far more raving in the media about Hawthorn than us, but I know where I'd rather be.

Exactly. If respect was easy to earn there would be no point having it.

It takes one mistake to destroy a reputation (Rhyce Shaw fumbling in a Grand Final) it takes a decade to win true respect (eg Glen Archer week in week out).

It talk Port winning a Grand Final to finally win respect after having been top of the ladder for the two previous years, and then within 6 months it is all gone again.

Hard to win respect, harder to keep it, easy to lose. That's the way it should be.

In 2004 we were 4-4 after round 8 and in 2003 we were 6-2. So looking at win-loss ratios alone, we are around the same spot we were at the same time in the last two years. Of course, people who analyse closely can see the differences between this year and the last two, but to the casual observer they are wondering whether or not we will fall in a heap again. And for any team that has been down at the bottom for a while, it takes more than one year in the finals before people start rating you as a team.

When we were 6-2 we lost our captain in Campbell with an achilles injury that took him almost 2 years to get over, then our vice captain Gaspar did his knee.
Most teams would fall off when copping two injuries like that
