Meditation - anyone do it?

Tucked away in the never-ending CM debate threads was a fair bit of ignorance and misunderstanding around meditation.

Personally, I've been doing it off and on for a number of years and I feel like I've got a pretty good experience with it and understanding of it in general. I was a bit underwhelmed by some of the discussion around meditation in those threads, so it's been on my mind.

I was wondering, any of you folks into it? What do you get out of it?

Maybe 2 or 3 times every day for 5 minutes at a time. It’s about controlling your breathing and clearing your mind to allow you to relax and be at peace with your environment.

At work, we have a dedicated room where we can do practice it. I was very sceptical at first but really enjoy doing it now. Over the past 18 months, it has ingrained itself into our workplace culture.

I don’t believe the mindfulness and meditation was never the issue at the Crows, it was the things said, the power held by some and removed from others and the abuse and isolation that took place that caused the angst. AFL clubs have been practicing mindfulness and meditation for 3 or 4 years, this is not a new practice.

It takes me at leas 5 minutes just to get my brain to shut up for a bit before I can get into a meditation. Sometimes 10 minutes. I usually go for about 15.

Where do you work? (if you can explain without personal details). Sounds awesome.

Um, it's called a "mechanism" around these parts.
I have no idea what you are talking about.

I’m a paralegal for an Eastern suburb firm.

Was a tweet from Fagan that a few have taken the piss out of. Hit the gym, went for a run to clear his mechanism and then found himself at home getting some perspective from his zen-like toddler.

We all have something that relaxed us and stops are brain rattling on. Something that brings inner peace

Mediation is another way of getting there. A place where the body and mind can rest.

Personally I found meditation improved my amberdextrousness

Similar here. I come home to my Bulldog skipping and jumping up the hallway ecstatic to see me. In those few moments all of my stresses and concerns melt away as the sheer love my bulldog has for me engulfs my entire being, recreating the happiest moments that I've experienced over my 46 years of life. And then, a mere half an hour later as I'm trying to walk him out the back along the majestic MacDonnell Ranges, he's belligerently standing with ass to us facing the front door so he can walk down the street AGAIN, to torment a German Shepherd mortal enemy, AGAIN.

Life is about compromise. Bulldogs don't do that, I think meditation would help me. So many good walks out the back, but no, not for Ralph.

Yes, your dogs waiting for you to come home to take them for a walk is a great way of switching off each night.

Wonderfully written.

In those few moments of bliss. Your body is recharging to the value of a few hours sleep

There is mediation groups out there for those who want guidance.

The key I find is learning how to relax before meditation. I never do it enough but I always recognise the way I feel afterwards
