After finishing the season as runner-up, Melbourne have picks 21, 39, 57, 75, 93, 111, 129 in the National Draft heading into the sign & trade period, which are picks 12, 22, 32, 42, 52, 62, and 72 in the Victorian draft.

What are their priorities this off-season?

Hawthorn is due to start the draft with the No.14 selection – which it could dangle to land Harris from a Melbourne side that is chasing early picks
Reminder that in the 2021 trade period, Melbourne got 24yo Tayla Harris and pick 44 in exchange for pick 32.

Greedy red-and-blue pigs if they expect a first rounder for 28yo Harris, presumably on the basis that she'll be going to a new club as a tier 2 player (whereas she's been taking unders, i.e. a tier 4 contract, since joining the Dees).

Ends up a very good trade period for the Dees, not just by virtue of what they did but also what they didn't do.

You can't just have a list of tough short people and soft giraffes*, which is where they were headed without Harris. If she was set on leaving, then of course it would've been dumb to demand pick 14, but they must've been pretty confident she'd rather re-sign than go to the draft.

Purcell's commitment becomes the no.1 question I think--don't recall her signing beyond 2025, and wasn't Mithen key in her coming to Melbourne?

*sometimes Zanker defies this too, but not consistently enough to be their sole source of blunt force.
