So, with the AFL draft drawing closer and closer, it's probably the time of the year when us posters robotically eye off the top prospects with our high draft picks in hands, scouting for 'potential', in the hope that some day they would come good and help turn our club's fortunes around (looking at you, Cale). With that in mind, and with enough people around here who know their stuff in regards to the juniors coming through, I thought it'd only suit if we held a mock draft.
The way this works is that each poster, from a group of eighteen (including myself, because I damn well can) puts their name down. First in, best dressed. From that eighteen, the group is randomised and allocated a team, which they control throughout the draft. We then run through the draft, pick by pick, selecting what players we want, until we get down to near the end - I'm hoping five rounds but if we're all bored enough we can go further as there's enough talent, plus mature age players or what have you.
For the sake of no complexity, we'll ignore rookie upgrades so whoever chooses Melbourne won't have to consider the rookies that we could potentially place on the main list. I doubt we'll factor in places on the list as lodgements are yet to completely commence - we don't know how many spots will be free on, again, Melbourne's list, and as such how many picks is the maximum - but this can all be discussed openly to sort out what we all want.
I also think, of the variables, that we include father-son bidding (so whoever has the Suns, feel free to take that dagger straight to whoever has Melbourne's heart) and ignore free agency compensation and traded picks, as it creates an ever-changing complexity. Unless we were to wait until the end of October, but frankly, I'm eager...
