Septimus looks like the goliath to slay, so which is the David that's up for it?

Given my lack of success in tipping over the years based on form (huzzah for Subzero in 1992), I'd have a wager on Bauer for the following reasons:

• Won the Geelong Cup first up in Australia
• Shares my mother's maiden name
• Bauer translates to farmer and Mitch looks like a true Port Adelaide player

I'm in Melbourne for the Cup and have jagged a ticket into the Tabcorp marquee iso if I cant get a winner in there I will officially give up....

FWIW in the cup I like Profound Beauty or Mad Rush at this early stage. and will have Moatize at a very light weight in my Multi's.

For part time punters looking for a long shot Prize Lady is at 150/1 and is the only horse besides Ice Chariot to win over 3200 metres (The last two Auckland Cups) and will, like the overseas horses, like the sting out of the track.

If you have done your dough and looking for an odds on favourite to get some of your money back at the end of the day Race 10 number 4 Daintree Duke is as good as a dead set cert that I have ever seen (famous last words in the punting world)......

I've got my ear to the ground today and if I think I can come up with a standout for the win I'll post again later.

WOW this thread took off.........

For anyone thats interested Mad Rush is my pick. It hasn't been raining here but a mate drove past Flemington last night and said the sprinklers were on that heavy in the main straight it looked like a tropical thunder storm which will help the horses that like the sting out of the track.

I'm having a box trifecta with:

C'est La Guerre
Nom Du Jeu
Barbaricus
Gallopin
Moatize.

Well back in Sydney and not punting in Melbourne ever again....

After a great carnival the Cup was a complete disaster for me, not only didn't I back a winner all day I did not have a collect.

I ended up backing Mad Rush stright out in the cup and well we all saw how that ended.

I had 8 horses in a Flexi Trifecta and got 2nd 3rd 4th etc etc...

Made the beginners mistake of chasing lost money in Adelaide and Perth and it just went from bad to worse.

One small positive on the day was the Birdcage... Had tickets to the Lion Nathan, Fosters and TAB boxes (the brides work not mine...) and the food, free booze and the eye candy were the only things that made the day woth while. I strongly recommend if you ever get the chance - do it.
