So who's gotten on board The Victory?

I got keen about half way through the season, and attended 4 regular season matches and the last final. I've secured tickets to this weekends finale as well.

Any fellow Hawks going? Should be a massive night

Not really into the A league that much, but on the Victory this Sunday. Listening to SEN a fair bit the way they pump them up it's hard not to get into it.

Yeh, I don't get this soccer bandwagon. Everyday on the news there's something about Melbourne Victory and it's getting annoying. As soon as they start losing everything will go back to the way it was before. :thumbsu:

.

Pity it was such a one sided match. I watched it at the Mildura Working Man's Club. There were probably about 20 people watching it at the start of the game but as it progessed only about six were left, most of those opting to play poker in an adjoining room.

Actually, there were a few big hip & shoulders, but they quickly get carded.
The Australian brand of soccer is much more physical than the European's. Don't see as much in the way of diving acts. It's growing on me. Always hated it growing up - bored me to tears. The live matches are what has converted me.

Bring in the hip and shoulder to soccer and you have a game.

Bring in the hip and shoulder, in fact bring in SOME form of physical contact, enlargen the goals, abolish the offside rule, make the players hit the gym for 12 months, also send them to army boot camp to toughen them up so they're not such utter pussies, abolish kicking backwards to your own goalie every 5 minutes, make it illegal to piss around with the ball for minutes on end, tell their crowds to chill the f*ck out it's only a game for christ's sake and THEN you have a game....

The fact that it's a low-contact sport is what makes the game attractive to parents who want their kids to play a team sport without risking injuries that are so prevelant in other codes, which is why so many kids play the game as compared to other codes.

enlargen the goals,

and remove the element of skill

abolish the offside rule,

Thus introducing flooding, which has marred our game so much.

make the players hit the gym for 12 months, also send them to army boot camp to toughen them up so they're not such utter pussies,

Clearly you've not been watching A-League, but European soccer. Rest assured, if there is diving it's to gain an advantage in the game, albeit an unfair one by our standards, and not because they are "pussies".

abolish kicking backwards to your own goalie every 5 minutes
make it illegal to piss around with the ball for minutes on end,
Yeah, I've never seen this in AFL! At least in soccer, it's because of some element of strategy and setting up a play, not simply to run down the clock.

tell their crowds to chill the f*ck out it's only a game for christ's sake
55,000 patrons on the weekend and 99% very well behaved and providing an awesome atmosphere.

Don't get me wrong, I love AFL far more than soccer - but I hate these kind of ignorant statements that are clearly made by someone who has never bothered to watch a game, let alone appreciate it.

Mte, these same comments are made by rugby people in NSW and QLD who see AFL as a pussy sport, so if you want comparison, why don't you compare AFL to rugby.

'Soccer no physical contact'. You ever played? WHy don't you play as a forward against the Vas brothers who play for Knox City and go up for headers. Do that then come back and say soccer is not physical you moron.

Please don't try and tell people that soccer isn't soft.

I've seen plenty of soccer unfortunately and in every league be it English Premier, A-League or even the World Cup I can't remember one incidence of a player getting hit and not rolling around like a girl.

Soft, mind-numbingly boring, excruciatingly defensive, all that and more....

I'm not talking about WATCHING sport, fella. That's lazy and easy, even soft. I'm talking PLAYING. You played? You gone in for a tackle against Theo the turk in my team? I've seen him break legs. No rolling.

Just b/c you some players roll on the ground in the world cup doesn't mean the game is soft. That's absurd. Some players act that's part of the game. I bet there's parts of AFL you would like changed as well?

Ah but because your friend has broken a player's legs its not soft?

I admire your logic.

But yes I will admit that there are a few changes I'd make to our game.

Put most puff-ball players on the Footy field and they wouldn't last 2 minutes without rolling on the ground squealing like stuck pigs. And I think Theo the Turk is in the minority. And kicking people in the shins and breaking their legs while they run with the ball is hardly 'tough' I'd say....
