I reckon we got a real good few years ahead-as long as we can find someone to replace Neitz. Any suggestions??
Nick Smith- do yous think he's quality or not
Matt Bate or Dunn- i know both good KPP in juniors, think they can take the next step.

Midfield will be great. Moloney, Mclean, Sylvia will be real good. Will go well with people like bruce, green and TJ. if they ever find form.

What do you think of Sylvia as a forward. i like the idea. good hands, good leap and good kick. not real tall, but could do OK

I've written enough, over to you blokes. Thoughts on our future?

I think that Sylvia should have been tested as a full-forward when Neitz was out injured. He has kicked several bags of 7 and several bags of 5 goals, whilst at the vfl level, he has shown that he can play that position. But I think that he should rotate between the middle, and forward line. mclean has to spend the entire time in the middle. I think Moloney could even be tested in the half-back line if things aren't working.

Moloney is the future of Melbourne will be a star with Mclean and Sylvia in the Midfield. My favorite player. Bigest UNIT at Melbourne and the insies 50's ******** what a freak

I've got a few ideas about this. On the Neita replacement, I think Nick Smith would be a good idea. Hopefully he can get a few games before the end of this year and show something because he certainly has potential. Dunn could also possibly be FF if Smith wasn't up to it.

On the other key positions, I think we have the players we just need to develop them. Over this summer Fergy should put on 6-7 kg and we develop him as our FB for the next 10 years. He has the ability and courage just needs some more body strength.

Miller has CHF to himself for the next 10 years providing he develops a bit more (This kid has enormous potential as a CHF he could be a lot better than what he is now).

Rivers I'm not sure about. Some people think he should be our CHB, others think he should become a HBF and use his reading of the play to cut off attacks. Now I think he could be CHB if he put more weight on. If he can't do this because he is naturally slightly built he should be a HBF. I'd like him to put on the weight but and see him develop as a fantastic CHB. No-one can say he is too short because there are other key defenders that are shorter than him but have shown they are very good, like Leppitsch (191cm), Michael (190cm), and Matt Maguire (190cm).

In the middle I believe we are have formed the nucleus of a very powerful midfield unit. Moloney, Sylvia, McLean and Bell who was good today, will be extremely good in years to come. I see Beamer as a specialist midfielder, who is already very good just inconsistent. I'd love to see him kick some more goals though. McLean is in the same ilk, though he could be our main in-and-under because he is very good at that and isn't the quickest player around, but is strong, reads the play well and has good skills. Col can play inside and out IMO and has everything: skills, pace, strength, mongrel and reads the play well. He could rest forward in the future and hopefully kick bags for us as well. Bell has a very strong body and was good today, and looks to be a HBF/midfielder. I'd love him around the packs and resting down back. CJ is another player that could be good in the future. Possible HBF, but I'd like him on a wing. Really good skills, has some pace and should bulk up a bit more.

In the ruck I believe PJ has already shown he is better than Jamar and has more potential. Strong, a lot quicker than he looks, good skills and just needs to learn to use his body more. I would like to see him up forward before this year ends.

And in other players Whelan will be around for a few more years, Davey is only 22 and Wheatley is only 24-25.

In our current middle-aged players (Green, Bruce etc etc) I worry a bit. Green and Bruce have shown the talent but our younger midfielders have shown more guts than them. Perhaps if they can develop something that resembles heart our younger harder midfielders can get it out to them. TJ this year I have been very happy with. He isn't a natural inside player but has been good when the team has been down.

So if we are decently coached and we can get Brett Ratten or another good midfield coach in, I think we will have a very good side in years to come.

Sorry about the long post, but IMO I really like our future.

the FF will be an issue cos Robbo needs Neitz to take the best defender.

notice how against the saints robbo could kick goals with ease on penny and fisher but den neitz went down back and eventually off leaving hudgton, the form full back in the comp with Rutten to play on him, stopping his flow of goals.

also crumbers: Davey and Yze feed off him

we wont win enough games and especially finals if we have Robbo Yze or Sylvia workin as a FF so smith has a lotta work to do. Dunn 2.

also we still dont know what to do with Holland

Melbourne really needs someone to sit down and work out who we don't need then what we can get for them. Melbourne needs both Green and Bruce as well as Johnston as they are player who will win matches by themselves. All Grand Final winners for the past years have had the gifted players who have litteraly taken the game apart.

Yesterday did show how important Neitz is to our attack, it also highlights self satisfaction within our current coaching and recruiting departments and an inability to groom or recruit more forwards. Holland was just a ND quick fix to a problem without making an effort.

We only need one more tough and under midfield with experience as shown by Rigoni who worked well in the first half but is on the verge of retirement.

It is time to take a gamble on Nick Smith and Bate.

first and 2nd picks for Jimmy Bartel?

thoughts?

we have 3 17 year olds coming up so we can afford to skip the first 2 rounds this year in order to get a hard in and under midfielder like Bartel

i think we have far too many midfielders - it shows because players like Armstrong can't get a crack. We have a good midfield unit which will get better with experience - just look at West Coast's as an example. What we should be looking for is a raw ruckman from the draft to scuplt - perhaps attempting to get Barry Brooks from St Kilda...
