AFL Club
Collingwood
I always get shit emails, telling me to buy shit or to get another membership. I have already paid for two, they never ****ing send out the ticketing information so I know if I need to upgrade to a reserved seat or not. I give the club as much as I can afford to give stop trying to ****ing sell me stuff and send me some relevant information.

It's the marketing departments relentless drive to maximize revenue.
I don't mind it, just ignore/trash the soliciting emails that are of no interest.
This drive is part of the reason we are debt free & strong financially.
Enabling the club to grow from strength to strength on & off the field.
A couple of back to back flags & you won't care how many emails they send out. :)

I would't mind all those emails trying to sell me stuff if they told me what I needed to know. I understand that is how the club turns a profit but at the same time they need to do more then just try and sell the members stuff. I still do not know if tomorrow is a fully ticket game or can I just turn up and get in?

Interesting topic ...

I just checked my daily email count from the Collingwood Football club ...

0 x Sunday 8th June
1 x Saturday 7th June (A Dane Swan Cap promotion)
1 x Friday 6th June (Emirates "kick at the G promotion")
1 x Thursday 5th June (Queen's birthday preview)
2 x Wednesday 4th June ("The Club" preview and a "Save the date" for the Carlton game)
2 x Tuesday 3rd June (launch of Magpie stars website, and Buck's brief)
1 x Monday 2nd June (Sign one member promo)
0 x Sunday 1st June
1 x Saturday 31st May (Saints game review)
2 x Friday 30th May (Superman merchandise promo, info about Copeland trophy)

... Over one email a day

I log onto a Collingwood fan forum regularly (this), so I can hardly complain about getting daily emails from the club.

But I would've thought for most people that's a tad excessive and approaching spam levels?

The emails come from all different folks within the club. Some come from membership, some come from the generic "club", some come from the superstore, some come from Bucks.

I wonder if anybody at the club realises how much collective email is being sent?

And is it effective? Not in my case ... about two thirds of the emails I get from the club don't even get opened. I read Buck's brief, and anything that seems to have a relevant subject line from the membership department.

I think it would work better if the club sent out two newsletters a week - one pre-game, the other post game. Everything should be able to fit into that, and it would have a better chance of being read.

And I think it would help if they targeted demographics differently. Often in correspondence from the club I get the impression that they think all members live in suburban Melbourne.

I am the same. But it must be effective overall or they wouldn't do it. Not just Collingwood, but spam advertising in general. The small percentage of people who read/act on it must make it worthwhile

took them 3 goes to send me my membership scarf this year. I sent 2 emails didnt get call back even though it was to their "call back" service

I Kept on getting sent hats, just a complete waste of money for the club with postage costs.

How's this for a pickle... I'm due to become a 2nd time uncle in late July and my brother said my job is to buy her first Collingwood membership.

But can you buy memberships that late? And I won't know what her first name is, or DOB, does that matter?

That'd be a good membership promotion "Magpie From Birth" ...

It'd need some logistics ... accept pre-payment of membership and register some details. The name and date of birth can be provided later, and membership takes effect from the date of birth.

Yes, I used to get so many from Collingwood and AFL, that I went to their respective sites and unsubscribed the ones I didn't want and only get Buckley's email (CFC) and Match update from AFL now.
