Mending the Blues - TAR Story 2007 onwards

Remove this Banner Ad

After another disapointing season for the Navy Blue, the coaching panel was under the pump so much so that everyone was fired. Into the equation came an old man, but possibly the greatest old man footballer you could think of - Ron Barassi. "I'll coach them" he said. Having played for them back in 1960's. And nobody argued with the great man.

His first move as coach was hiring Mark Harvey from Fremantle, as his deputy.

Carlton Off-Season
:

Retirees:

Troy Longmuir

Barrassi's comments: "Nice bloke, wish he had of known how to have played footy. No great loss we all knew he was sh1t.

Delistees:

Callum Chambers
Justin Davies
Ryan Houlihan
Luke Livingston
Corey McGrath
Ian Prendergast
Trent Sporn
David Teague

Barrassi's comments: "None have shown enough to keep their spot on MY LIST. Carlton are no longer going to except anybody and these guys have run their course."

Trade Week:

Jordan Bannister (CARL) for Jason Gram (STK)
Brendan Fevola (CARL) for Chris Judd (WCE)
Chris Bryan (CARL) for Patrick Bowden (RICH)
Heath Scotland (CARL) for Tom Lonergan (GEEL)

Barrassi's comments: "We needed a fast back pocket, which we found in Gram who may be rotated through the midfield. There's none better than Chris Judd and Brendan Fevola wanted out therefore that was an easy trade. Patrick Bowden and Tom Lonergan seem like Tall Forwards of the future."

National Draft:

5# Chase Harry (TF) - OV 76, IMP 4
21# Seth Reschke (TB) - OV 64, IMP 16
37# Gabriel Morrell (SB) - OV 68, IMP 4
53# Max Nower (TF) - OV 59, IMP 18

Barrassi's comments: "Chase Harry was an ideal pick at 5#. He along with Max Nower will add to our tall forwards depth. Seth Reschke and Gabriel Morrell will strengthen our backline immensley."

Pre-Season Draft:

Pick 4# Paul Chapman (SF)
Pick 17# Troy Selwood (OB)
Pick 24# Jason Winderlich (OB)
Pick 28# Tristan Walker (TB)
Pick 29# Nick Smith (TF)
Pick 30# Travis Gaspar (TB)

Barrassi's comments: "We have picked up a lot of recycled players in the hope that they can change our fortunes and I have a big feeling they can"

"Very happy with the win. Stuck with them for four quarters and just got across the line. Got me so excited I had to change my pants after the game. Young Chase Harry is a legend. Will stick it up everyone when he really hits the big time. Jarrad Waite did well and some of the experienced players led the way. Well done guys! :) :thumbsu: "

;) very very happy hope you can keep this going :D appreciate it heaps mate, if the blues cant bring happiness in reality, let them bring it in the gaming world :p

That defence still has a few question marks over it, maybe during the off season try get the best defenders available from trading.

True. Defence is questionable but the depth of both Forward and Midfield is unquestionable. I might breed a Tall Forward into becoming a Key Defender. eg. Lance Whitnall or something.

NAB Cup Quarter Final: vs Geelong

FB: Andrew Carrazzo - Jason Saddington - Travis Gaspar
HB: Troy Selwood - Adam Hartlett - Jason Gram
C: Marc Murphy - Anthony Koutoufides - Andrew Walker
HF: Paul Chapman - Lance Whitnall - Tom Lonergan
FF: Matthew Lappin - Chase Harry - Jarrad Waite
R: Adrian Deluca - Chris Judd - Nick Stevens
INT: Brad Fisher - Kade Simpson - Jordan Russell - Josh Kennedy

IN: Adrian Deluca - Adam Hartlett - Tom Lonergan
OUT: Barnaby French - Bret Thornton - Patrick Bowden

Barrassi's comments: Adam Hartlett gets to have a sniff in defence to see what he can do after being groomed as a tall forward. Lonergan comes in for the injured Patrick Bowden and Deluca rotates with French in the ruck.

Carlton 15.8.98 defeated Geelong 11.13.79

Most Goals: Harry 4, Whitnall 2, Walker 2, Stevens 2
Most Possies: Judd 33, Koutoufides 28, Stevens 25, Walker 23
Injuries: Jason Gram - Broken Hand (4 Weeks)

Barrassi's comments: "I felt we played really hard running footy and everyone contributed. Hartlett kept his opponent to one goal which was promising. Chase Harry keeps getting better with 11 marks and four goals while Judd was being Judd. Kouta did well in the middle. Everybody played consistenly and ran out the match well.

NAB Cup Semi Final: vs Melbourne

HB: Troy Selwood - Adam Hartlett - Adam Bentick
C: Marc Murphy - Anthony Koutoufides - Andrew Walker
HF: Paul Chapman - Nick Smith - Tom Lonergan
FF: Matthew Lappin - Chase Harry - Jarrad Waite
R: Adrian Deluca - Chris Judd - Nick Stevens
INT: Jason Winderlich - Paul Bower - Jordan Russell - Josh Kennedy

IN: Adam Bentick - Nick Smith - Jason Winderlich - Paul Bower
OUT: Jason Gram - Lance Whitnall - Brad Fisher - Kade Simpson

Barrassi's Comment's: We are slowly developing as a team and a few players have being thrown into the mix to see how they go. Good luck to everyone playing because we may see a few developing stars in the making.

Melbourne 14.10.94 defeated Carlton 10.20.80

Goals High: Lonergan 3, Stevens 2
Possies High: Selwood 26, Stevens 24, Lonergan 22, Chapman 20
Injuries: Marc Murphy - Foot (0 Weeks)
Reports: Nil.

Barassi's comments: Inaccuracy killed us and the Dees were too good for us today. Nathan Carroll really shut young Harry out of the game but that's experience for you. Deluca dominated in the ruck but Hartlett was taught a football lesson, getting five goals kicked on him by Brad Miller. All in all we should have done better. Now we look onwards to the real stuff. :thumbsu:

Practice Match Result:

Carlton 19.10.124 defeated Fremantle 14.13.97

High Possies: Stevens 35, Simpson 29, Judd 27, Bower 22, Chapman 20
Injuries: Nick Stevens - Ankle Reconstruction (22 Weeks) :(

Barrassi's comments: "The boys played brilliantly, unfortunately we lost BOG on the day and one of our best players, Nick Stevens for the season which is a huge loss. Others will have to step up to make up for his absence. Now we look towards the real thing.

Round 1 - Vs St. Kilda @ MCG on Sunday

FB: Andrew Carrazzo - Jason Saddington - Travis Gaspar

HB: Troy Selwood - Seth Reschke - Andrew Bentick

C: Luke Blackwell - Anthony Koutoufides - Andrew Walker

HF: Paul Chapman - Lance Whitnall - Matthew Lappin

FF: Jarrad Waite - Nick Smith - Tom Lonergan

R: Adrian Deluca - Chris Judd - Kade Simpson

INT: Dylan McLaren - Paul Bower - Jordan Russell - Josh Kennedy

Barrassi's comments: "We are quietly confident going into the match but it hinges on Seth Reschke who plays on one of the best CHF in the game in Nick Riewoldt. It's a huge matchup for his debut but if he can keep him quiet then we can take the game by the throat. With a whole new forward line, hopefully we can kick a winning score."

Carlton 17.16.118 defeated St. Kilda 12.6.78

High Goals: Smith 5, Lappin 3, Lonergan 2
High Possies: Judd 25, Simpson 22, Koutoufides 21, Bentick 21, Chapman 20

Barrassi's comments: "I felt the team as an overall played well, the only downside was the Reschke got pasted by Riewoldt who kicked seven goals. Gehrig, Milne, X. Clarke, Watts and Montagna didn't score a goal which gave a big plus to the backline. While Nick Smith did well in his debut match for the club. Well done guys, that's one down"
