Okay, hypothetically imagine the AFL were to shrink Melbournes high population of AFL teams to 'even out' the AFL state ratio..

The Challenge.. choose TWO teams (one from Victoria one interstate) and merge them together similar to how Fitzroy and the Bears did in '96!

discuss, give each other hints and whats not just have some fun with it

i know the wording for this challenge isnt the best but.. hey go for it!

I have a heap of these from old Merger Of The Week (MOTW) comps

Very terrible, but nevertheless, Gold Coast Kangaroos:

I'm pretty certain Essendon and Carlton are both from Vic, as are Hawthorn/Essendon, Geelong/Hawthorn, Essendon/Richmond and Hawthorn/Carlton.

Also pretty sure that West Coast and Gold Coast are both "interstate" clubs.

haha very true, the majority are not following the guidelines but i'm enjoying the end products anyway

An abomination of Sydney/Essendon merger - ended up being mixed up with the Olympics and Knight Rider.

OK let's see if I can remember the reasoning. I'll spell it out in all detail for those born post-Fitzroy.
Well, back in the 1980s there was this TV show featuring David Hasselhoff, called "Knight Rider". His character was named Michael Knight, but it was revealed during the show that he was originally a police officer called Michael Long, who had died and been revived, and given plastic surgery to look like someone else.
In our real world, Essendon had a player called Michael Long, who won the Norm Smith Medal in 1993. Also in 1993, Sydney was awarded hosting rights for the 2000 Olympic Games. The head of SOCOG (the organising committee) was a bloke called Michael Knight. Well, he was head of something Sydney related.
So what we've got with the guernsey is green and gold (Aussie sports colours) and the Sydney 2000 logo, plus the red sash on black from Essendon. The sponsor is Knight Industries (from the TV show) and the number is 2000 for two reasons.
The socks are black and red, but there are LEDs on the hoops which operate like the scanner on KITT's bonnet. KITT was the car in Knight Rider. KITT stands for Knight Industries 2000 - also the year of the Sydney Olympics - and thus the number on the jumper.

Fremantle Kangaroos. I still don't like North Melbourne very much.

...given the clash rules now, I'd have designed this much differently. Dark jumper with dark shorts at home, light jumper with light shorts away. Fairly sure I did the design before Freo adopted their current three-chevron jumper (i.e. they still had anchor jumper).

This was originally a South Melbourne-Essendon merger but it could work just as well as Sydney-Essendon.

Put my creative juices into gear so you might want to avert your eyes.

An idea for a Melbourne Port merger.

Instead of picking one location they split their home games between the two cities and named themselves "Southern United".

The club decided to head back in time for the home, both clubs wore variations of pink early on and both clubs have sported Vs in their history.
