Coming soon to Channel Ten

Press Release:

Network TEN has successfully secured the much sought-after broadcast rights to MERLIN - one of the most anticipated series to come out of the United Kingdom in recent years - from FremantleMedia Enterprises. MERLIN explores the adventures of the young man destined to become the legendary sorcerer and brings to life a new legend for a contemporary audience.

This action-packed, 13 x one-hour fantasy drama, reportedly one of the most significant investments by a UK broadcaster in years, revisits the saga of Prince Arthur (Bradley James) and his wizard, Merlin (Colin Morgan), in the mythical city of Camelot. The story centres on these two characters as ambitious young men, struggling to understand their destinies and road to becoming extraordinary.

Obviously a lot of poetic licence has been taken, as in the future, Merlin is much older when Arthur pulls the sword out of the stone. Still, another interpretation and re-imagining similar to Smallville (eg Clark's earlier relationships with Lex Luthor and Lois Lane).

Looks interesting. Purists will be frustrated at the bastardisation of the Arthurian legend.

The most interesting character in the show is actually Gaius (played by One Foot in the Grave's Richard Wilson), a physician/scientist who takes Merlin into his home at the request of Merlin's mother.

Merlin is like a cross between Robin Hood (quirky and lessons on human virtue), and Sabrina the Teenage Witch (the use of magic).

Any show involving magic tends to sell well (Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Charmed, etc).

Definitely made for kids. That said i was bored and watched the first season and its not too bad to kill some time.

I just watched the first episode and it is fairly tame, but not bad for an hour on a sunday night.

Its far from tame- its quite good :)

With all the Dark, Gritty, Dreary, Depressing stuff you see on TV a bit of lighter, confortable but enjoyable entertainment on TV wouldnt hurt surely!

The should be able to counter for everyones tastes so rather bagging the crapola out of it, use that little device sitting next to you called a Remote and change the blooming chanel!
