K Cornes winningthe award is an absolute joke, he wasnt even the best 3 port players of the season.. not that I could name 3

The voting system is fatally flawed.

In a crap team there are generally just the 2 or 3 players who are half decent over the course of the season, of course they will collect most of the votes - as magtrev said... 8 votes in a 10 goal loss is laughable!

Kane Cornes was a long way from being the best AFL footballer in this state - he has even been rubbished constantly on the Port board with some scribes wanting him off their list.

Speaking of off the list, I hear VERY strong rumours (from excellent sources) that both Pearce and Junior Burger want out and are exploring a move to Melbourne based clubs.

Apparently they are less than pleased that C Cornes has been given a two year deal worth $500 k a year given his legs are shot and that Rodan was signed for 3 years even though he's struggling to get a game. I understand that at least one of the two wanting to leave have been offered $50 k more per year from a Melb based team and a longer contract.
I get the feeling Port are about to go through the mother of all off-seasons and they could be a shell of a team (see Fremantle) next year.

must remember that the agars medal is voted in relation to how other people play in the adelaide or port teams not against the teams they're playing.
what it shows is that two or three players played consistently for port while the majority ( 7 out of top ten i think) were adelaide players reflecting the widespread consistency of adelaide players throughout the season and the fact that its clearly better to have an even spread of players contributing than just one or two or three.

which makes it a complete joke.

games in which the best dozen players are opposition players do not deserve any votes, let alone 7 or 8

in that case get rid of best and fairest votes too i suppose?

it means that the votes and amounts are relational as well

No it is a bit different.

BnF you are only competing against guys on the same team, this Merv Agars Medal has one decent side vs one crapola side. The crappy team is going to be favoured more often than not.

This award has been crap for years....
its subjective of course, but after some Crows games i've looked at the votes and could not uderstand how on earth player x got votes....

I sometimes think the voter was looking at those misleading dreamteam or whatever its called points

So Kane Cornes is judged the best AFL footballer in this state, yet fails to make AA squad of 40.

Perhaps a more meaningfull voting system would be a 3-2-1 vote of the best players of both clubs combined on the weekend. Some weeks our players ALL the votes, others they may (rarely).

The award is meant to be the best Footballer in this state, not the one who gets the most possies in the worst side.

Good!

I dont see how a combined one would work.

Kane had a good year. He'll go close to winning the BnF again. Was pretty consistent. I dont think he was our best player this year, but he would have been in our top 3-4 for sure. The fact he plays every game helps in these types of awards, but the voting is flawed. I dont buy the Advertiser so I dont know what the week by week voting was like, but going on previous years, teams that lose by 10 goals to 2nd bottom shouldnt have players getting 8, 7, 7, 7 in the voting for example.
