MFP = Multi Function Polis

It was announced way back in the 80s. It was supposed to be a new ultra-high tech city centre. From memory, it was supposed to be located somewhere between Adelaide & Elizabeth.

It never eventuated. My guess is that it eventually became Technology Park at what was then known as The Levels (now Mawson Lakes), which is a vastly scaled down version of what was originally planned.

I thought it was Monarto.
Dunston bought up a shitload of land around there, but never got any private investment and came out of power before anything eventuated. All the land was sold again, except for a bit that was given to the Adelaide Zoo and is now Monarto Zoo. Massive money drain.

No it was the Bannon government who initiated the MFP idea. And the dark prince is right in that what is now Mawson Lakes was where it was to be located. This was going to be the research and education capital of the Southern Hemisphere in areas such as space, aeronautical, defence, IT, etc. to get us out the so called rust belt of the manufacturing stalemate that was appearing to slowdown. But while the government was willing to give away land and taxation benefits for companies to set up here, the companies would have to put in infrastructure and build their own buildings. In the beginning only Japan was mildly interested, but then their recession put and end to that.

You are right in regards to it being Dunstan was the one with the foresight to purchase parcels of land in the Monarto area but they were only non productive farms that didn't cost too much. However that was going to be for a sister city to Adelaide. He could see the pitfalls of what is happening now, in that the city basically only north and south to grow. He wanted (and this is the real reason that the dual freeway to Tailem Bend was extended that far) to take pressure off of the city and create a modern fast growing town that would eventually be of equal size. But his health deteriated and then Labour lost office and the Liberals as they do, put the axe to his plans.
