There are for and against arguments, no worries.

But I say get Barlow for sure.

I made a long post in the "Season Over - Where to from here?" thread outlining what I reckon we should do over the rest of this year to get us ready for 2017.

And I reckon getting Barlow would be very good for us.

- We could get him cheap
- He would improve our midfield a lot
- He works harder than 95% of the players on our list
- He is a much better Tuck, whom we forced out too soon
- He might only play a year or two, but I expect us to be a really good side again from 2017 and he will only add to that
- You need to have good players at your club, good older players, and next year that will probably only be Deledio at age 30...

Provided that we can indeed get him cheap, then definitely DEFINITELY do it. We may also if we're lucky get some guns like a Prestia, Hurley, B. Crouch or whoever too, but something we lack is another slightly older, more experienced player that is genuinely good, and that works hard.

One (of the) mistake we made after 2013 was forcing Tuck out and also losing Jackson (maybe not our fault there). We lost two older players before their time was up who were both hard workers and very good (most of the time) players in their own right. We overestimated Cotchin and co. to take over by themselves, not to mention screwing up the gamestyle.

So yeah, adding Barlow would be a very good move if you ask me.

Would like him

However i've said it before, I really don't like the idea of going to lengths to get a player only to have them play for a year or 2.

I rather get prestia.

I honestly don't think we need a midfielder anyway, our midfield is fine.. We just need to play midfielders IN THE MIDFIELD!!

We could use another key defender or a ruckman.

Side note: Michael Barlow looks like a young version of my year 12 english teacher, resembelence is almost uncanny.

Yeah hear ya man definitely, but yeah not to go over all the benefits of having him again, if we get him cheap (or free!) then we can still get someone like Prestia, a defender and/or a ruckman.

But we DO lack quality midfielders, and especially those that work hard, and even if he only played a year, he lays a foundation for someone to take over and will only have elevated us. And if somehow he is already relegated to back up early in the season, then we are the better side for it hey.

If we could somehow swing griff (or similar) for barlow im all for it. Another older bloke for upto 3 years wont hurt us.

Id be looking to add to the midfield further however. Still want to go hard at prestia.

I understand the arguments for him but for where we sit on the premiership clock it's a big no from me. Will only have one maybe two good years, and not to mention he will possibly stop a good kid playing. We still have te likes of Lennon, Drummond, Markov, casagna and markon to play and trial, plus the kids from this years draft. He's a stop gap that we don't need he will set us back and stall our development and that's been our biggest issue the last few years with players like Kingsley, petard, lonergan, Moore, Miller and so on. Some were good but the stopped the development of kids.

don't think he'd come cheap. Teams in the premiership window would chase him if available pushing up his price. So I can't see any bargains with him.

Also Just wonder how banged up his body is playing that hard contested style that Freo plays under Lyon.

I wanted us to draft him way back but now he's probably too old. Would he improve us for a couple of years? Probably, but then what? It's not going to be a big enough improvement to push us into contention and we've already got enough issues with the development of our youth without shoehorning another retiree in front of them.

Oh god no.

Our list is full of top up players who can go no further why add more?

Next we will be after Watson.

No, just no........

Yes yes we would have a Brownlow medalist again last one of those we had was also a druggie

What's with the Barlow bandwagon, he's not getting a game now in the worst side, he's old, he gets injured, he will stop youth playing, he's overrated right now but was great, he won't suit our needs he would suit a fill in role for a top 4 or 6 side, we aren't premiership contenders we need to play kids and trade for quality 25 or under players and just plan no way.

refer to my earlier comments , 10 x better player than lambert and just might stand up in a final when 8 other mids wont , get him
we wont make the finals for 10 years
