Michael Coad vs Lukas Markovic

No doubt that the Hawks will be looking to draft one of these key defenders in the upcoming draft period.

Both have shown considerable improvement in their respective teams and both would be a handy pick-up as a bit of back line insurance.

BUT...

...If you could only choose one of them to represent the Brown'N'Gold next year then who would it be?

I can't see the Hawks drafting both of them so this could become a very relevant question.

Personally, I would definitely go with Markovic. With the inclusion of Gibson, our defense is no longer in such desperate need for that mature defender(Coad).
Plus.
He already plays for Box Hill and has had a great year for them playing with many players that are currently on our list so it will not be as hard for him to adapt.

It's very hard to split these two as they would both be a great fit at Hawthorn. Depending on how Morkovics ankles are holding up and if they would be able to hold up in AFL standards i'd be leaning towards him. He's a lot younger than Coad so we'd be getting more years out of him.

If we don't grab him this year, i'd imagine he'd get picked up by another team. He's had a great season down at box hill and he's the type of player who doesn't mind throwing his body around, can crunch the sh*t out of a pack of players. We need some balls down in our backline and i think he'd be a good choice, we could get him at pick 39 with no dramas.

Coad on the other hand i think we would be his only lifeline into the AFL? I don't see any other teams picking him up as most teams already have the gaps filled in their backline and i don't think they would pick up a 26 year old player. There could even be a chance that he'd slide to pick 46? There is no reason why we shouldn't try get the both of them, they would add some solid depth into our backline. The only thing that may stop us from getting him is if we did go for Markovic and used pick 46 to secure a ruckman, but who?

I personally think these two guys have more of an upside than Roe and Macdonald as well... Thoughts?

I think we have bigger problems with our rucks. If one of our rucks goes down, or in Taylors case, does something stupid and gets rubbed out, then were do we go.......Lowden ?? Is he ready yet ??

I think we can cover down back with Gilham, Gibbo and Shoey. Get Campbell Brown back down back, and that is reasonably solid when you chuck in Birchall and Guerra. It is the injuries that will kill us.....lets just say that Tom Murphy might get plenty of game time.

Black Hawk 23, if Harris is a joke then the joke is on you. Underated midfielder who lived in the shadow of Harvey & Rawlings. Plus Harris doesn't get along with someone down @ north.

Check his 2008 stats out & tell me this is not adding depth to a strong midfield. Pick him up with a higher pick if still available. Adds more experienced depth. The window is open, time waits for no man MATER,

Since the 2nd fracture the leg has been pretty good, his body is standing up heaps better and he is also learning to play pretty well with injuries (carried injuries through the last 6 games this year.) His biggest problems are probably his housemates
