I dont mind if he plays, but damn he had better play good or you are right, he is just holding up the development of someone else. I also see him as a depth player. Good luck to him, I hope his determination to get a game rubs off on other players.I have a lot of respect for Doughty, but its a similar kind of respect that I have for blokes like Perrie and Shirley, although I think he is more in the Perrie boat. In this I mean that they have got to the highest level but just ran out of talent.
They were blessed with only a certain amount of talent by god and I have total respect for them as they have made the absolute most of it, all through having a great work ethic, keeping their bodies in the best possible shape, barring injury and always giving their very best.
Unfortunately, they just lacked the ability to take the next step and becoming stars of the AFL. Perrie can now retire, look back and say I got the best out of my footy career that I possibly could.
Doughty is similar, he was a relatively late draft pick and has been a consistent performer over the past few years. Unfortunately he has to be at his very best to hold his place in an AFL 22, he did this in 2006, created himself an x-factor in his hardness at the footy. Unfortunately he could not find this again this year and so his lack of ground breaking pace, silky skills or ball finding ability have hurt him.
He will not get any better and he is not a star player, so at the moment all I see him doing is holding another younger player back. He is a valuble depth player and may come in handy this year, but I would seriously doubt he will get another.
Congrats to Doughty on getting as many games as he has, I just don't see him getting many games at all this year.
