At 3/4 time he was on 44 points, how in the blue hell did he end up with 151 points?
He took 1 contested mark in the back line which he didn't control anyway, but to score 107 points in a quarter, this scoring system is ludicrous...

Would love to know what he did to get 107 points in the last qtr. That's quite excessive. How many possies etc..... can anyone break it down?
I can't break it down to the last quarter only but I can tell you what he had for the game, he had;
8 kicks & 10 handballs (83% effeiciency)
5 marks (1 contested)
1 hit out
2 tackles
1 Free Kick against
7 contested possessions
2 clangers

Now those stats alone don't warrant 151 points..
If Ballantyne got 151 points I would understand the theory behind it, kicks the sealing goal etc... But all Johnson did in that last quarter that was points worthy was take a contested mark from an opposition kick at a crucial stage of the game... Ok you can reward that with possibly 30 points but to score 107 points overall in that last quarter was a joke and us SCers need answers on how he scored those points.. I will select my starting team differently if I knew why huge point rewards happen..

What would you of done or who would you of selected differently?
Well if players are going to be rewarded heavily in supercoach points for contested marks from opposition at crucial stages of games, I will pick players like Brian Lake and Harry Taylor who do this week in week out.. Heck, Brian Lake should be scoring sub 300 scores if Johnson got 151 for that 1 mark he took.. Lake takes 7 of them a game..
Forget loading up on quality midfield/defender sort of players like Goddard, Hodge etc.. just pick the players that can take contested marks in the backline..

But Harry Taylor was averaging 83 before this weekend? Lake averaging 110 & I don't think Lake takes 7 Contested marks p/g.

Goddard 134 & Hodge 123 would seem to be the right option if i had to choose even with this 151 score we have been presented.

Off course I would pick those players before Lake and Taylor, my argument is how can someone score so heavily with 1 bit of play... That's why i'm saying, if 1 contested mark from opposition at a crucial stage scores you over 100 points, you just need to pick up players who can do that.. They can have 3 possessions for the game, but take that 1 big mark at a crucial stage of the game and bang there you have it, 100 SC points...
I just want a logical explanation of how this bloke scored so high..

You can get a a 2:1 ratio or better from clean, effective play, so with 31DT of stats in Q4 that leave 40-odd points for what I presume was a game-saving mark. Still a lot, but much more reasonable and in accordance with how we know SC works.

Jack Reiwoldt kicked 5 goals in a quarter and scored as much as Johnson did.

I'm usually a big defender of the SC scoring system, but I'm sorry, his score is a joke. Either they made a mistake and awarded him points him he didn't get, or they're on some of his drugs.

I am the same Jobe, I thought the scoring system was pretty accurate on a players performance, but this score by champion data was way out of character, it's almost like a Where's Wally picture, pick the odd score out from all AFL players..
Like I posted earlier on., if Johnson's game warranted a score of 151, Brian Lake is getting ripped off majorly, he should be scoring 250+ when he taked all those contested mark from opposition kicks..
Xavier Ellis should have scored 200 points 3 weeks ago when he marked the ball in the goal square on the siren...

get over it?

Even though I agree with you the OP still has a very valid point.

Its not too much to ask for more of an insight into the scoring system because it will change the way you select your team. Things like this help me understand why people prefer dream team over SC.

I know the system rewards players that have a significant impact on the result. Even though i didn't see the game, it has me scratching my head that a player can gain 107 SC in a qtr of footy after (appearing to) doing buggar all for the first 3.

I love supercoach, not knocking it or anything. But is this one of the flaws in the scoring system? That a player can increase his score in the way Johnson did from just one qtr of footy?

from the herald sun today..

"Docker Michael Johnson was the week's top-ranked defender, with 91 of his 151 points earned in his defensive 50. Fifteen of his 18 disposals were effective and eight of his possessions were won from the opposition. He was involved in eight scoring chains and after 11 matches averages 70 points and is priced at $319,900."

Was just bout to post that... There ya go he was invovled in 8 scores and 8 were won from the opposition

That still does not explain his last quarter, freo kicked 1.6 in the last quarter. If one assumes goal results mean heavier weighting in the points given, then he should have had a better score at half time(freo kicked 2.8 after h/t) or does Sc ignore the result and whether it be a point or a goal give the same weighting?

Love to know his raw stats in the last quarter

Anyone from Champion data who posts here can explain?

According to the Herald Sun game stats in the paper yesterday he had 8 touchs in the last quarter. Thats about all I could find regarding his last quarter specifically. I dont know what he did with 8 touches but they must have been magic.

didnt watch it but he probs took marks inside melbs 50 from melbourne kicks... anyway i will probs get abused for this but theres nothing we can do is there? so lets just forget about it this subject about the scoring just irritates me

WOW...
To be honest, 7 off those posis were not magic, however he did take that 1 mark in the dying minutes, but he wasnt involved in that last scoring chain directly, massive reward for the 1 play..
Ballantyne got ripped when you look at Johnson's score..
