The difference is that Schwab and Connolly have proven their incompetence over a long period of time. And I don't think they copped enough flack for being mates.

Wallis and German are more than qualified. I don't know much about Prior to be honest, but I don't think our skills have gone backwards. Getting the ball up field after an opposition behind, centre clearances and skills seems to have been a problem since our inception. To expect a new regime to solve those problems in one off season with a mature playing group is unfair IMO.

No one had a problem with Shaw last season or in 2006, but now that there's a couple more Bombers at the club his past is a problem?

What's Germo's connection to those guys, didn't he play for North Melbourne?

Yep. And he was assistant at Hawks, Wet Toast and coached Subi.
He's done his time, but he is the midfield coach, and they are absolutely getting pantsed.

Scott Watters coached subi to a flag in his first year so I dont think Germo was an einstein to pull that off.

LOL, classic! I would have stuck at selling Jim Beam to be honest, good product and no doubt a few good perks here and there.

The old saying you can't teach old dogs new tricks...

That's the problem with recruiting players with crap skills - they rarely get better, at least not consistently.

You can see the difference when young skillful players have the ball - Palmer, Mayne hardly ever miss targets. Even Ibbo when he got over his nerves.

Mundy has always had good skills coz he was skillful when we recruited him etc etc

Guys like Peake, Schammer, Matt Carr won't ever improve.

Hopefully Hinkley will make up for his average disposal by being more effective running around the ground then Peake is and actually utilise his speed like Wojinski (spelling?) for Geelong - crap kick but very handy and important player.

Also we need to recruit 'pure' midfielders, guys that know what to do at clearances rather than trying to teach guys. That's why we're really missing Hase, the only guy other than Palmer - and the only senior - who knows instinctively how to read the taps and get the pill.

Would it make any difference if we had JC as our skills coach?We are am unskilled team.
Don't think it makes much difference,if you can't kick a ball when you reach that level of football then you are never ever going to learn when you get there.Same thing applies to handball shepherding tackling etc.all the same.

We've had poor skills for 14 years and you expect Prior to fix it in one summer? Obviously we should have got Harry Potter to coach - a magic wand seems to be what everyone here is looking for.

This 'mates' thing is the biggest crock in AFL - it's fine for everyone else, but not Freo. Why do you think Prescott is at Richmond with Knights? Why is Peter Worsfold, Peter Sumich, Dean Irving at West Coast with John Worsfold? Why did Damian Hardwick go to Hawthorn with Clarkson? Put yourself in a senior AFL coaching position and tell me who you are going to bring in as your assistants? If you don't bring in people you know, know you can work with and know you respect, you're crazy.
