Voss - Gone. Hird - Going. Buckley - I give him 3 years. I think the big 3 experiment has failed. Sometimes great players don't make great coaches. I think it comes so naturally to them, they don't know how to articulate it to others.
Voss started off badly, very badly with flawed ideas about what was required to win a premiership, however IMO he looked as if he was growing into the job. He was lucky to keep the job early on, but IMO unlucky to lose the job this year.

Probably say no to him.

4 years of poor results, broke the culture and harmony of the club and since Crazy Vossy trade week has had 5 first round picks...yet only one is playing regular football in the firsts. I think Neeld did less damage at Melbourne than Voss has at Brisbane, great player, Chris McDermott like as a coach

:thumbsu:.....

Thankfully the Roo decided to get a job in the media and not become coach.

Buckley is safe for a while. Hated him as a player, but warmed to him as a coach, given the circumstances he took over. Has done OK from day 1 - already done more than Voss & Hird.

Voss' mistake was thinking he could do it alone from day 1 without experienced heads around him (& fragmenting the player group).

Hird's mistake is all coming to a head.

His circumstances in taking over were much better than Hird & Voss. He took over an extremely good list that had won a flag in 2010 and were very close to a flag in 2011....

He wil want to make a grand final this year or next - because he is going to be losing some quality players in Swan, Ball, Jolly, Maxwell, Lynch, Krakouer sooner rather than later.

He actually did his time as an assistant too before he became coach and unlike Voss and Hird didn't get the job by assassinating the incumbent through the media. What goes around comes around and Voss and Hird are reaping what they sewed.

Not sure I'd lump them in together.

Buckley looks like being a good coach, Hird current issues aside the same.

Both have always struck me as thinkers who have an intimate understanding of the game.

Voss seems more of a Darren Jarman to me. Very good at football but more interested in doing rather than the reasons why.

Voss never had the support or cattle the other two did. Essendon did a great job surrounding Hird with experience and footy smarts. Buckley reminds me of Ayres taking over after Blight. Is trying to fix something that wasn't broken. I reckon there is discontent in the camp because of it and reckon it might be his downfall.

Except Hird's results would keep him in the job, it's the AOD stuff that might **** him.

And no to Voss; don't rate him - and isn't there chat that half a dozen players were looking to leave if he was re contracted?

Five years though? That's enough time to show your wares.

The trading stuff ups will haunt him but I don't think he's much chop anyway.

Brisbane are like Fremantle with Mark Harvey. They've had some good kids come in thanks to their bottom eight finishes, they've banked some games, now they need a proper coach to take them forward.

Half a dozen MORE players.

Great player but has always struck me as a dummy. Have never heard an interesting or thought provoking football observation leave his lips.

Surprised he was sacked. Well done Brisbane, right move. Thought he'd done the worst possible thing by them - not enough wins for any success, enough wins not to change anything.
Agree 100%. Watched his press conference from today and its just a jumble of incoherent thoughts without any structure or clear message. Not badly spoken per se, just no substance to it.

Exactly. I'm in agreement that he's no good. I'm arguing the other two are not that good either, it's just been more concealed by their respective situations.

If Tim Watson & Gary Ayres can't make it, then there's no link between playing & coaching performance

Yeah i'm with you

Buckley got a golden ride that he's almost finished squandering

Here is one from left field.
Is Triggs partially responsible for Voss losing his job? Would Tippett have made enough of a difference? :)

I think Tippett would have made a massive difference, Brown is past it and all their replacements are best used as 3rd talls. Tippett would take the pressure off Brown and allow Merrett to play as a FB.

IMO they've got a better than average midfield and defense, however their forward line is lacking big time.

Thing is we have no first rounders to waste

Hird and Voss are proof that an apprenticeship is essential before taking the top job no matter how good a player you are. It is interesting that generally speaking the smartest coaches appear to be those that had to work hard and be really innovative as players to get the best out of themselves. The over confidence that comes with supreme natural talent doesn't translate easily to coaching.

I feel Brisbane's CEO and senior management are responsible for many of their problems. Whereas Collingwood's is bulletproof, and Essendon is well...yeah.

AFL will need to step in over the next few years to stop them going down the toilet financially too.
