Seriously? The players couldn’t give a **** today.

Getting absolutely slaughtered in the middle. 33 clearances to 21 atm.

Wtf is Voss supposed to do about that? His game plan was good enough to beat Geelong last week.

If you think the players didn't give a toss today and Voss can't do anything about that, isn't he supposed to be this great motivator?

Today was speed of the ball rather than speed of personnel.

We were back to slow movement and losing clearances.

I'd suggest positioning was a key. Last week, we held position outside our Geelong opponents and got them on the spread. This week the Crows had the outside runners, and we went into every contest because we didn't trust each other.

However, it was still obvious how far we laboured behind when the Crows were running. They were definitely quicker than us.

If our pressure rating was high, and we still got shellacked, then I'd look at Voss and Austin.

But here, I am looking at the players predominantly, and partially Austin. I was hopeful that the injected pace of Durdin and White might have helped us against this mob compared to usual, but it clearly isn't enough. It's such a neglected area that kills us every time.

I don't blame Voss at all for this one.
Im pretty sure our reluctance to get another KPD is a major factor in these loses also.
If you are getting smashed in the clearances then you need reliable stoppers.

Yet we continue to persist with inconsistent & unreliable players like Gov and Young in Key positions.

Stevie Wonder can see that is never going to work over the season.

It’s almost as if our second best key defender wasn’t playing 🤔

Win against Geelong proved again to me we have ability and can play very good football. We have ability

My question AGAIN is why cannot we play this consistently and why are our efforts so inconsistent

Any side with Cripps Weitering Curnow McKay Hewett Saad TDK Walsh Cerra Silvagni as your core should be a top 6 side at worst

And, this may cause some anger, Curnow McGovern & McKay are conditional footballers and aren’t worth the money they are paid. Ability wise they are great but they don’t do enough, rarely stand up when needed and don’t work hard enough.

If they had the toughness and work ethic of Cripps or Silvagni or Hewett we would be much much better

I am just so tired of conditional footballers in a Navy Blue jumper

Why wasnt the team up for it today?

It’s so much more than Voss. Mediocrity is accepted throughout this club and has been for 30 years

I don’t know how many times I have been in the rooms after bad loses and there are smiles and people patting each other on the back. Modern Carlton accepts loses and poor performances way too easily

You see it at the ground at the end of the game. Players smiling with their opponents. Not a care in the world. Would this ever happen when Kernahan was captain? How many players can put their hand up and say they give 110% each and every week?

This, it is a cultural issue. There must be a sense of back slapping after a win like last week in a cultural sense around the club that causes this acceptance of mediocrity. I have a feeling that instead of doubling down after a win like last week and insist that this is the standard and you'll be judged against it, we celebrate it instead.

Geelong aren't too quick for us. It was two hours of watching Adelaide players run away from our players and gain ground and Adelaide players run down our players.

Yeah I thought that tactically we should have been better. We allowed them 1-4 free outlets on the outside at every stoppage. You would think that a simple man on man situation around the ball may have unfolded to force them to kick under pressure but that failed.

Also constant kicking down the line when they clearly had us outnumbered for that kick was painful to watch. Would rather watch us kick backwards and slow play than to do that.

Tactically we are super vulnerable to sides who setup well with run on the outside and setup to have us outnumbered down the line. We really are easy to coach against.

The players you mentioned aren't the problem, they are the reason we are competitive. It's the rest. We were out run, out muscled and out kicked as well as out coached.

This is a game that list management need to watch on repeat as well as our coaching group because it highlights exactly what is wrong with our list, recruiting and tactics.

Docherty, Hollands, Hollands, Motlop, Fogarty, Cowan, Williams, Smith, McGovern, Acres, Fantasia, Camporeale, Camporeale, Kemp, Durdin, Newman, Binns, Charleson, Carroll, Wilson, Lord, Boyd, White, Cincotta, Duffy, Moir, Evans Cottrell. This is the group that is letting us down because this is the group who are supposed to be quick and skilled and deliver the ball well.

Docherty - Seems past it, looked slow against the Crows and his kicking is 50/50.

E Hollands - He has skills, one of our better players because he can get the ball and can kick but he is slow. Looked treacle against a side like Adelaide.

O Hollands - For a wing/half back he's slow. He can match pace but never runs away from anyone. Kicking is 50/50

Motlop - Kicking is ok but for a small forward he is slow. We saw that tested and proven right in this game.

Fogarty - Small, slow poor kick but he competes really hard. Would not get a game in any of the better sides. Geelong would delist him every time as would Collingwood but is best 22 with us.

Cowan - He has some talent, he can kick but again, he does not run and carry the ball. Pace is good without being exceptional.

Williams - Is a massive loss because he has pace and is a nice kick.

Smith - He would have been a valuable inclusion.

McGovern - He's more a third tall than a running player.

Acres - Is a smart and tough wingman but one of the slowest and his kicking is ordinary. His kicking is ordinary because his lack of pace puts him under pressure.

Fantasia - Always Injured.

B Camporeale - Is an inside player who is not a spectacular kick.

L Camporeale - Is in outside player who is a poor kick and has ok pace.

Kemp - Injured.

Durdin - Looks at time to have pace but watching him chase opposition players and them gain ground on him was an eye opener. By Crows standards he is slow.

Newman - Doesn't have pace but has smarts and a good kick, out for the season.

Binns - Small and slow and not a great kick. Typical Carlton selection.

Charleson - Maybe.

Carroll - I like him, looks to have some pace and kicking ability.

Lord - Big slow inside player.

Boyd - Actually has some pace and kicking skills but wont play him.

White - Pace is ok, kicking has a little to be desired but the potential is there.

Cincotta - Some pace and kicking skills, but injured.

Duffy - MIA.

Moir - Can't run.

Evans - Short and slow. Classic Carlton selection.

Cottrell - Impressed by his kicking, pace is ok but has great endurance.

Carlton is a team that has a really strong core of superstars. Weitering, Silvagni, Haynes, Cripps, Cerra, Walsh, Hewett, Curnow, McKay, DeKoning. They keep us in touch with the 8. The rest of the team/list are outdated players who lack pace and foot skills. This is the issue.

If you can't out run the opposition and can't keep up with them and can't hit difficult targets then you are in big big trouble in modern football. You need to carry the ball to open the play up and break up the zone, our inability to carry the ball against a much quicker Adelaide made us easy to defend against and easy to turn the ball over. On the flip side we were unable to defend because they out ran us, we could not keep up and they ran and carried the ball, broke down our zone and opened us up.

Yes culture. In his presser Voss saying this is unlike us etc etc.., the anomaly of the year. Hello…. Second halves rounds 1-4, full game this week, tail of 2024, 2022, first half of 2023. Coaches giving them outs and over highlighting positives and not doubling down enough on expectations and remediation of flaws and errors.

Can see coaches too scared to give TDK a bake because he might just think stuff it and decide to go to StKilda for the money. Think we do the same with players such as Charlie who gets away with a lot of poor quarters and efforts but he’s a fan favourite and face of the club.

People think Beveridge is a bit of a nutter but he wants players in his team who think team and tow the team ethos. He’ll take the risks of losing players and a poor season here and there because he realises kowtowing to poor behaviours leads to erosion of culture. Once Bevo leaves the dogs his legacy will stay with them for a good number of years.

I’ve been very critical of Voss for a while, but you can’t pin yesterday on him. Not one player won their individual battle. There’s no tactic in world sport that can make up for that.
I can handle losing to your opponent. What i can't accept is lack of effort and intent.

That's on the players.
Defensive structure looked an absolute mess, from highlights on Footy show this morning it seemed a jumble of zone & player on player and role confusion. Leading to mish mash of double teaming & free opposing players. Either players aren’t listening or are genuinely confused on what their job is.
