Long time reader, new poster/venter..

Last 365 days of AFL Carlton have won 8 games..

WCE x 3
North x 2
Essendon x 1
St Kilda x 1
Geelong x 1

Something happened behind closed doors..

It’s not just coach, structure, system.

Culture, mindset, effort..

Gone from a top four side to a genuine bottom 3/4 side. No one’s system can be worked out and broken that quickly..

I have no idea about coaching, football or structure in any sense. I played under 12’, 20+ years ago::

However, every single contest; the opposition hits the ball towards our goals/ defence, they have 1-2 mids free or someone coming in hot from defence and we’re like seagulls to a chip on the beach . 3-4 Carlton players peel off and head towards the ball carrier which allows a lane way for the opposition to lead into and they split us apart.

When we “look good”, it’s because our mids/backs run as a group from “behind their man”. Or we get hands to the ball first and slam it forward. Maybe someone can describe or articulate this better..

You are absolutely right. Something has happened behind closed doors, we'll probably never know, but this team is broken and the only way to change it now is to break it further. More pain ahead for supporters who have known pain like a twin brother for too long

Something to ponder.

The players that were on our list when Teague took over from Bolton, that were still on our list when Voss took the job from Teague, are still on our list now.

Cripps has been captain throughout, sharing the honours with Doc throughout the Bolton-Teague-Voss transitional years.

Walsh and Weiters have been in the leadership group since the Teague-Voss changeover but Doc has handed his mantle to Charlie.

Players that have been here throughout, with ages/games played to end of 2019(the Bolton-Teague year) to end 2025:

JSOS 21/60 -> 28/138
Cripps 23/101 -> 30/222
Harry 21/35 -> 28/135
Mitch 24/64 -> 31/143
TDK 19/2 -> 26/92
Doc 25/92 -> 32/180
Walsh 18/22 -> 25/131
Weiters 21/76 -> 28/196
Newman 25/51 -> 32/134
Curnow 21/58 -> 28/145
Cottrell 18/0 -> 25/74

So for me, any and all of the above that have ever appeared to be conditional footballers need looking at before Voss.

That's not painting a pretty picture for club leadership either.

These players are additional to the above that saw the Teague-Voss change and are still on the list:

Zac
Kemp
Durdin
Saad
Pitto
Boyd

No offence to them, but personality wise, they aren't overly influential.

This is info from the Carlton official site and a little Wicki for historical team lists and ages. I tried to be as accurate as possible.

Nothing made up, nothing inferred outside of opinion I have shared above. Take from it what you will.

I was one of those people who had their hopes raised after that finals run two years ago.

I think we all wanted Vossy to be a success obviously but whether it will happen before seasons end or after, his days appear to be numbered at Carlton.

It's blatantly obvious he's lost the players now and in that sort of situation the coach will always be the sacrificial lamb.

A tough job ahead for whoever Vossys successor will be. This bunch of players reputation for being a bunch of coach killers is more than well deserved at this stage.

Not sure what point you’re trying to make.

Under Voss we had a 12 month purple patch between mid 2023 (where we went on a run to play finals) and mid 2024.

Either side of that we have been poor with no significant changes in personnel.

He’s won more games for us this year than any of our other superstars, to be fair. Need to get his head and body right.

Just drum it into his head that he’s on $1 million a year and there are 100,000 members who rely on him.

Once a coach loses the players he is done. They never come back

I would have thought Voss lasts to end of year but now I’m not so sure. Depends on Wright handover as Cook won’t do it

PS Lloyd needs to go NOW and Wright takeover as interim until years end
Agree we are going to lose supporters & sponsors etc for next year if this level of effort continues.

We have our list issues, but it looks like the team have completely lost the want to bring effort and work ethic.

The cynic in me thinks it will happen before the membership auto renewal cut off in August. They’ll need to start selling hope.

Not even a first or second time from this playing group. It would be the third coach for a lot of them. Such a conditional bunch. And it’s the members and supporters who suffer the most.

If we decide3 he’s not the man for the job, there is no reason for him to stay. We still need to pay him, its just optics we would be concerned about.

I’d like to see them have a half decent coach before assessing

Board has a lot to answer for

Yep, “Ask the players what they want.” was how David Teague was hired permanently after he won some games in a row as the interim coach. Embarrassing.

The process for Voss was equally as flimsy and quick. I don’t have any confidence in the next coach they hire.

If Wright does what he did in choosing McRae we could be okay

Fingers crossed. It does sometimes feel like GW is our only hope.

100%. I dont get this logic that we somehow look better as a club if we give him the whole year. We'd still be sacking him while under contract.

All we'd be doing is robbing ourselves of the chance to get the best coaches (senior & assistants), plus giving them less prep time and chance to be involved in list management decisions.

Also, last night was our oldest side in 83 years. Can expect more of that if we have Vossy coaching for his career. Then itd be a complete wasted season.

This will totally happen because the priorities order of the club:
1. Business
2. Business
3. Announcing membership numbers
4. Signing sponsors
5. Footy Department

I blame the board and its total lack of football acumen over just putting the top end of town on the board.

I’d like the players to be blamed for once

This group has had multiple different coaches with multiple game styles and none work. He’s taken us to a prelim

Some of them are just fragile. Get Voss better assistants, get new players

The players are to blame but you can’t sack all of them.

There will be list changes and players that have dropped off will be moved BUT it doesn’t help if we don’t address other areas first

Before we sack him, does anyone want to coach us?

I can see this being a situation where we go from Voss to worse.

We need to have a plan here. I don't think Voss is gone yet, I think there is still a plan here where Voss coaching us works but it has to be very different to what we have been doing and who we have working for us the last 4 years... 25 years.

End of the day Ratten and Malthouse had a better group of assistant coaches. Out of all the ones we have had, this group is the worst.

Not trying to make any real point at all.

Just gathered some facts to share.

Take from them what you will.
