Read the Herald Sun today and it has a little snippet on Timmsy taking an assistant Coach role for the Phoenix Mercury because of Head Coach Cynthia Cooper going. Good luck Timmsy!!

Just on womens basketball...anybody keeping up with the WNBA? My two teams the Phoenix Mercury (I go for these because Timms originally played for them and now Veal does) and of course the Seattle Storm (Lauren Jackson) are going alright.

Phoenix are 7 - 5 and Seattle are 7 - 7 in 4th and 5th in the Western Conference. Both are still a chance to make the playoffs. Interesting season thus far with the Sacramento Monarchs in last place in the West with a 2 - 12 record after making the Western Conference Semi-Finals last season and many touted them as a chance to beat the Sparks or Comets this year.

Swoopes is back for the Comets after the knee iinjury kept her out last season. They are battling it out for top spot in the West 1 game behind Lisa Leslie's Sparks, the defending champs. Much like the NBA the East is almost non existent with the champions probably going to be decided between Houston and LA. Washington are a chance though from the East.

So have all you just got blank stares now or do some of you follow the WNBA and know what im going on about?

Jackson and Veal both missed the start of the season through injury, and so haven't made the impressions they would like, but Jackson is beginning to show improvement. Seattle now have a top PG in Sue Bird, a good centre in Kamila Vodichova and Jackson at 4, so the Storm should do fairly well this season, especialy later in the season when the team chemistry improves. As for Veal, injury robbed her of the the number 1 PG spot, and has struggled since her return, the loss of Graf hasn't helped, so hopefully with Timmsy joining the ranks, her spirits and her game will improve.

Of course the good thing is, once the WNBA season finishes Jackson and Veal return to Canberra to play for the Capitals. Both signed new three year deals before leaving for the states, so for the next few years (at least) I get to see the two best young Australia woman play some pretty fine Basketball... and in those tight lycra uniforms as well.:D

Yeah Jackson missed 4 games at the start of the season and Veal has only played 2 games i think all year. Bird is top class and her and Jackson should both be all stars this season and with Jackson now back and playing well, im sure the Storm will make a charge for the playoffs.

Jackson is averaging 14 and 6, a little down but she is second in the league in blocks per game. Her numbers will climb now that she is healthy.

Jackson is start to show some form with 16 points today, following 19 the game before, but Bird is in a bit of a slump. She shot 3 of 12 today, and 1 of 12 previously. Once both these young ladies are up and firing together, Seattle will be a very tough team to beat.

I watched that game over the net where Bird shot 1 for 12. Although her shooting was off, she really stayed involved in the game which is what i like about her. Instead of shooting she started distributing the ball, she ended with 12 assists...in the WNBA, thats comparable with someone dishing out 18 assists in the NBA.

Jackson and Bird both appear to be on song against LA. With 10 minutes to go the Storm are leading the Sparks 67-36. Jackson has 19pts and Bird 13pts and 5 assists.

This will open up some eyes as LA are 14-2 at the moment and are very short favourites for title.
