And the were of the Victoria Park variety too!mighty mick said:boonie held the stubbies on a plane trip record, but wasnt it mick nolan who downed the most pies in a certain time frame.
Twinkletoes said:Still considered one of the best ever exponents of intelligent ruck work guile. Sammy Newman, for instance, and Simon Madden both place the big fella right up there as one of the truly tough and smart ruckmen to have played the game. His now unfashionable expansive girth perhaps belies what a key ingredient he was to our 70's era of domination.

im truly lucky to have been able to see the likes of these guys play true i was only a 9 yr in 75 but there are distinctive moments you remember and we were truly religious about our footy, basically went to every game and watching world of sport on the sunday, greg said:Rantall reckons he's the best footballer he played with, a big rap considering he played with the likes of Cable, Blight, Greig and Shimma.
Rantall was a absolute gun himself.

mick nolan was a fit man barassi had a torture test run at the start of preseason you would have to complete that run in specific time before you were passed,
this run would take place before training and better men than mick would take longer to do it.
no i was upper class my uncles would put on thier ties at half time and wander into the social clubgreg said:They certainly were great days Mighty Mick, managed to see a fair bit of the roos myself back then.
Even if it was from the boundry line, walking around with the Copper who was trying to find my old man, who was usually p*ssed standing under the score board with his mates.

This story sometimes attributed to it being Slamming Sam. Doesn't matter...either of them would have brought plenty of levity to the place!Story was often told about Barassi lining all the players up at training after a thrashing the Saturday before. Barassi said that they were going back to basics. He held a football up, looked around all the players and said - this is a football. Mick standing at the back called out - hang on Ron, you are going too fast.

Love this little piece, McClure went down like he was hit by a train.
Always makes me laugh.
How many weeks would Michael Christian suspend him for that hit?
McClure should have looked where he was running. Mick knew what was going to happen. Was there that day, even the Blews supporters laughed.
If it had have been Christian on the end of that, he would still be trying to work out who he was. Loved Big Mick. The 70s for us were magical given what many of us had grown up with in the 60s.How many weeks would Michael Christian suspend him for that hit?
