Hi guys!
I went to visit a freind of mine in Hospital This Morning and I saw Mick Martyn Waiting for elbow Surgery.
I had a quick chat to him about his career and I let him Know my opinion That he should Retire a NORTH champ and to come back and be a legend of only 1 club! His response was that he still had something to prove to the Football world,I dont know what that is but he was pretty adament that he wanted to go round again.....

Well glad u spoke to him so we have some idea of what hes thinking..

Theres only one more thing you could have done; tell him he is a North Champion- and a Champion AFL player and he has NOTHING to prove to the footy world (Dont know if it would change his mind or anything.. but he has nothing to prove)

Dont go around again Mick..

Did he say he was still angry at the club and still had no plans on returning (obvisouly he sounded like he wanted to go around again.. but after that do u think he would have come back?)

Go Roos

Micks officially nominated for the draft according to the AFL...
Heard it on the news!!!!

Big mistake I reckon

The big mistake will be by the club that drafts him.

Football is better off without Mick Martyn I hope no one picks him up:o

No, the game is all the poorer without cult figures like Mick. There are precious few about these days. I do agree, however, that it's time for him to bow out with a bit of dignity. As soon as we traded for Leigh Brown, the writing was on the wall.

Hardly a cult figure a stupid & violent clown at best a menace to football:mad:

redrafting mick

I believe mick could still offer a lot to the club. I wouldnt mind if north redrafted him...

Whilst his service as a first team regular may be limited he would still be a useful backup. Imagine a scenario where a couple of our key defenders like colbert or archer get injured. I think it would be great to have mick martyn step into the seniors to provide some leadership for the young ones. furthermore, imagine if we make the finals, i think having mick in the side could be a key to stopping a strong forward and could see north reach another step on the finals path - this would provide our youngsters further exposure of finals footy...

Mick would also be an excellent defensive role model for our young players. His experience is invaluable and one can see the thought he puts into his defensive play whether it is in being in the right position or using his defensive techniques...

I think north would benefit in redrafting mick yet again with our very last draft pick. his costs would be low, his commitment would be high, and the skills that he can pass on to our youngsters would be valuable. maybe he can be redrafted as a player/coach. certainly, id like him to remain around the club...

I've got no problem with Mick putting his name in the draft. While I would prefer he remained a North only player, you are asking him to give up a minimum $100,000 in the salary that he would get at a new club, and also give up the rush that I am sure every AFL footballer gets when he walks onto the field. He still thinks he can contribute, and I personally think he could find a spot in the defences of several AFL clubs. If it doesn't work out retire him, and bring someone off the rookie list.

I doubt he will get picked up, but he has every right to give it a shot IMO.

it is micks right to nominate for the draft.

as he was quoted as saying" if you start fearing failure you may as well not try anything."

what can he lose, all true roo supporters know what he meant to the club, team of the century, cult figure,

as much as it hurts to see him nominate for the draft, good luck mick.

it will be interesting to see what happens from here, remember bourke is still cashing in his 225k for what:rolleyes:

Good luck to Micky.

The only clubs that may be interested would be Carlton & the Bulldogs.

The Dogs are pretty light on tall players (losing Penny will be costly) . Carlton, dunno, maybe Denis will take a chance ?

I think he played alright last season, and for all the fanfare regarding some of our younger key possie players - they haven't proved anything yet. I still think he should retire though...

You are all sheep...!!!

Why should he give it up and why is he too old??? Because everyone says so...

Good on ya Mick, for doing what you think is right, not what everyone else says...

Mick's form last year was better than his year before, and it was pretty good...probably only 2-3 games, last season did he struggle, but then a fit Anthony Stevens or Glen Archer had some off weeks too..

The club shafted Mick, we had room for him on our list, and to cater for some concerns, his contract could have all been performance based, but that is history...

Mick, do what is right for you...!!!

Stewart

.......and screw the Club, right? After all they didn't do anything for Mick over 15 years did they?

Because Mick doesn't think he is too old doesn't mean he is right.

BAAAAAAAAAA!!!

I am hopeful that he will be drafted again but I am more hopeful that he plays against the Roos in 2003. That will mean that a lot of the Roo supporters who wrote the man off will have to eat humble pie when he does the job that we all have seen him do over 15 years. He still has enough to offer an AFL club to warrant him being drafted again even if he is "too old".

Unfortunately (for Mick)
Those Roo supporters eating humble pie will also be bombarded with sausage rolls coming from Sav on the ground. Mick is Savs ideal opponent, how many times did Sav kick bags against North, Mick had no chance then and will certainly have no chance now

That will be embarassing

Yaeh and how dumb are people who read the herald sun let alone believe what is in it .

And your evidence to the contrary?

The fact that Richmond are paying a proportion of Bourke's salary and Daffy's salary has been common knowledge for a year now. I haven't heard Richmond come out and deny it.

hasn't been denied because it probably is true - the amounts are what is in question (biot like the herald sun blowing players wages out of proportion)- in fact the procedure is very commonplace - even herald sun readers should have picked that up by now.
