I'm sorry if you guys don't feel this requires its own thread I am just really curious for others thoughts on this matter...

Dany Daly is in charge of the midfield stoppages at the moment having previously been our forwards coach.

My question or maybe more so a statement is: Why is our set-up at stoppages so poor?

When you look at the stats in every game we have either won the clearances or weren't too far behind but when you watch the game the quality of those clearances have been compared to our opposition.

Having watching all our replays very closely teams are very well set-up compared to us, with a in-and-under player feeding the ball out followed by a slick handball and a player breaking the lines in comparison to our slam the ball on the boot clearance.

Do you put it down to missing Deledio around the stoppages? Are we really lacking the midfield polish? On paper the stats aren't looking bad, the efficiency is where we are lacking and it is hurting us.

Our players aren't team players. I could count the blocks/shepherds of the last decade on one hand AFTER i chopped it off.

Not the only reason. It's just one.

I feel we miss big Ivan around the stoppages, really used to bully the opposition and contribute to clearances.

Yeah actually I was unfair. Ivan blocks. I can count his on the hand I didn't chop off. :p

It's not the stoppage itself that's an issue, it's the movement from stoppages that's the problem. We've adopted a horrible, Wallace-esque hospital handpass regime in which the ball is handpassed from player under pressure to player under pressure until we either turn it over, get tackled, or have to scramble a kick out.

It's not too hard to work out what the problem is, though - our midfield spread coach this season is none other than the man who spent the last 3 years ruining our forward line - Mark Williams. It also explains the issues we're having in moving the ball from defence, with nobody running to the right positions, because this is also the domain of the midfield spread coach.

We have gone spread crazy . As soon as though it looks as though one of our players may win the contest the rest head east and west often leaving the player in possession with 3/4 opposition between he and a teammate. Is seeing massive amounts of turnovers after we have won the contest and the opposition in heaps of space once they have won it off us.

my heart just sank. you've got to be joking, this bloke has to be moved on. we went backwards when he took over the forward line, we've gone backwards again in the middle.:(

I was not aware of this. The guy has GOT to go

Plug Voss/Woosha in his place.

We seem to see a lot of hack kicks (Cotch the specialist) that go 30m up and sideways, from centre clearances. Also noticed a few handballs to a running back (Morris) that was under just as much pressure and hack kicked it also. Tough part of the game but I do agree that it seems opposition teams seem to get a pure clearance that ends in a raking drop punt to CHF.
In fact our better centre clearances seem to come from Jacko, of all people, when he decides not to try anything clever and just bangs it on his boot. He seems to be able to launch it longer and more direct. I'm a big fan of this as the quick entry causes total chaos. The slower, measured pass is easier for defenders to judge and spoil.
With Hampson in the guts we should at least get a reasonable % directed to our mids, but with Cotch carrying around his opponent it's clearly difficult to extract cleanly.
Maybe Thomas should follow Jackos lead?

I would love to have a banner above the playing surface and when they train they have to pin point passes no higher than 4 m of the ground.
