With Ottens, Blake and Mooney dominating the ruck tonight, why did our midfield get absolutely smashed in the clearances?
Have we been over rating these blokes?
Did they not have enough motivation?

I'm dumbfounded.

Yes, to an extent.

For all the wraps on Kelly I've seen, he's yet to convince me he will be a star...

Remove Ablett, Chapman and Enright. They were barely in there. See my other post. Coaching staff lacked initiative and tried very little. Seemed to be the same rotation all night.

Don't start .... that "same rotation" is what everyone on this forum would have agreed was the best rotation in the competition 3 weeks ago - a few average performances and we crush our midfield gems???

Joel Corey, Jimmy Bartel and Cameron Ling will not perform that badly ever again in terms of centre clearances ... as for whoever said Kelly isn't going to be a star - he's still underdone from a cracked scapula ... if u had any idea u should kno bones take roughly 6 weeks to heal, he's obviously still underdone and another to have a bad evening.

FFS - do not start hacking away at our on-ballers, without those players in our side we'd get done by carlton

The Cats are at their lowest - and their premiership odds will be at their highest - so use some brains and whack sum dosh on them cause if the past 24 months havn't convinced u small minded people that we have one of the best lists (and midfield rotations) in the league

The 3 mentioned did spend some time on the ball though.
We just seemed incable of getting a clearance tonight.

Never said that....!

So why the hell is he being played then?

I'm no med genius, but laziness and a lack of effort isn't a result of bad/healing bones.

fair call he may have been lazy at times. ...

i cant be bothered clicking 'back' and scrolling to see who said "why is he playing then?"

are u suggesting players only get picked if they are 100% ready to go? Kelly is far from it, he looks underdone and not the same Kels who was playing good footy at the end of last season and during the NAB Cup - yet he's too valuable to be out of the 22, would u prefer to see Byrnes in the 22 and Kelly in the VFL? of course we're going to pick Kels even though he's not fully fit and 100% at his best.

But why use his state of health as an excuse then? You obviously think his body is in bad enough shape to warrant a mention as an excuse, so let's work back the other way: if it's bad enough to play a part in determining how much he can contribute to the team, why is he being played in the first place?

Are you suggesting we're better off playing guys who can't contribute 100% ahead of guys who can - regardless of previous reputations? I didn't want Kelly picked two weeks ago coming off his injury, and I don't want him picked now. His value to the team isn't such that he can wander into the team and expect to operate at 70-80% until he's good to go both physically and form-wise.

the point i was trying to make is that he obviously is in our best 22 - but ease up on the kid who appears to be underdone and obviously not at 100%. i dont think now is a good time to judge him on whether or not he's star material.

Joel Corey is a great "dream team" player. He is a front runner that has no defensive side to his game. He refuses to pick up a man and never chases when the opposition plays keepings off. Man up and pressure the opposition or !@#$ off back to perth.

Please, reputations and the like only get you so far in this team - either perform or ship out. If Dog's talent alone can't save him, neither should Kel's. If the treatement was good enough for Jimmy in '04, it's sure as hell good enough for Kel now.

I don't once believe his injury is affecting his current play. And if it was, then I ask again, why the hell is he playing? That one falls down to the club - I really don't know how they expect to win games whilst carrying 3-4 players each week. It simply doesn't work that way today.

I'll judge him on what I see, and up to date, there's little. We can worry about Kelly's "star" when he's playing like a senior player.
