the good "no-one cares about the ansett cup routine' and says how good st,kilda are.

This guy hates Collingwood, and gives them no credit at all. Stupid four eyed tosspot.
h is an imbecile. and im not sayin this cos he slagged of the pies (again) but he does it to everyone.

I hope he reads this and TAKES A GOOD HARD LOOK AT HIMSELF

Does ANYBODY take Mike Sheahan seriously?? How does he continue to earn a living in a position for which he is clearly unqualified? I've yet to see an article of his that doesn't either bang along making points that have long since become redundant, or make safe claims (St Kilda will be somewhere in the middle of the ladder, ooooh sure you're not going too far out on a limb there?) that pose as serious analysis. He must have written 15 or 20 articles last year on why the new final 8 system isn't supposed to work, without putting forward one constructive suggestion on how it can be improved. He hasn't got the faintest idea what's really happening at any of the clubs. And this guy is SUPPOSED to be one of the elder statesmen of the journalistic pantheon. GIVE ME A FREAKIN' BREAK! He's a dork.

PTW - u will be pondering what might have been for the rest of your life. while we all have to put up with this dickheads crap opnions. GOD DAMN why didnt u hit him, the judge wouldnt have locked u up. you would have been given a heros reception for knocking him down.

I just think Mikes wrong with all that he says, so it doesnt matter. if the clubs r smart they will use it as motivation and prove the turd wrong. i know i would

Mike Sheahan wouldn't know the difference between a football and his arseh*le.
He has no footballing history or anything. Being from Sydney, i don't get as much crap as you's get from him, so thats one thing im thankful for.

Theres a guy up here in Sydney called Jeff Wells, i dont know if he writes for the Melbourne papers, but he is just as big as d*ckhead as Mike.

Why dont you just email him direct, you only have to log onto the Sun Herald and there is a section there, where you can email him and tell him what you think about what he is writing.

Same Olds, I don't want to get into the whole which-finals-system-is-the-best debate again. Personally, I think nothing beats the old final five. But for Sheahan to crap on again and again about percentage chance of winning the Grand Final and who Essendon have to beat to win the thing (on last year's evidence they didn't seem too hampered by the workload) is boring and totally irrelevant if he can't propose something better. It's very easy to sit back and complain, but if you can't put forward SOMETHING constructive, your writing is at the level of the average letter writer (below many of them). Nothing wrong with complaining or using simplistic arguments, unless you're getting paid a massive salary. Then I would expect more.

He doesn't even bother to look at how the system works in practice. His entire argument was constructed from what-if's and worst-case-scenarios. Unfortunately, with the constraint on the final 8 system (it being conducted over four weeks), I don't think there can be a perfect system. If Sheahan does, then I'd like to hear it. But so far he hasn't enlightened us.

I know that's not the point you were making; I just wanted another opportunity to vent my spleen.

Mike has proposed to have two divisions of 8, with the original final 4 operating out of each division. Teams within erach division would play themselves twice, and the other division once. So he HAS actually proposed an alternative, although this alternative is hardly original.
 
Yeah, you're right, Dan. Forgot about that. But if my memory serves me correctly that wasn't a very popular proposal, was it. There was too much of a problem about which teams would be in which division. And that was before this five year tv deal with all clubs guaranteed from extinction in the short term. Might have got messy if a club died under that system.

But as you said, not exactly original. And not thought through either. He's your classic bandwagon jumper. He just gets on board a proposal or a team because it might be good press. Good press is a great place to start, if you can develop an idea, or even demonstrate its effectiveness. But he never seems inclined to do that.
