Richmond may make some changes to its football department at the end of the season

RICHMOND'S football department could be set for a major overhaul at season's end, with its experienced head of operations Greg Miller reportedly under pressure to retain his job.

There have been suggestions that the veteran administrator and one or more of coach Terry Wallace's assistants may be ousted in an aggressive review being conducted by former captain Tony Free.

The Australian reported on Saturday that Free, who replaced Miller on the board mid-June, has been carrying out an assessment of the department and believes a shake-out is required for the club to reach the next stage of its development.

It also revealed that the club has spoken to Craig Lambert, an assistant to Leigh Matthews at the Brisbane Lions, and had approached former Lions premiership captain Michael Voss – who is now bound for West Coast.

However, Miller indicated that the rumblings are rumours and that Richmond is heading in a positive direction.

"Rumour and innuendo, that’s what I believe," the director of football said in Saturday's Herald Sun.

"I’m very pleased with how the club’s going, couldn’t be in better shape."

Although the Tigers are better placed than previous seasons, in 10th place and a chance to make the finals, a history of off-field impatience could suggest some concern for Miller and others.

Tigers president Gary March, who is also conducting a review, looked to hose down the speculation and said that Free was simply familiarising himself with the club’s workings.

"He is, categorically not conducting a review of the footy department," March clarified in The Australian.

"He is learning about the department, though, because he’s new to the board."

Miller, the former North Melbourne chief executive, joined Richmond in 2002 under then-president Clinton Casey and oversaw the appointment of Wallace.

I DEFINITELY heard a report that miller had been sacked immediately on the radio report. WTF????

Miller got wind of his replacement and cracked the shits

Woah!!!
Wtf?

I for one am not happy with this, Miller has done more good than bad for this club!!!

If he is gone I hope they have a replacement in mind. I'd love to see Lambert back at the club ... should never have let him go.

Miller made some blues IMO trading away draft picks and is a bit of a spin doctor. To his credit though, when there were rumours at the end of 06 that we would trade Tucky, I wrote the club an email title 'DON'T YOU DARE TRADE SHANE TUCK!' and he wrote me back saying Tucky was a required player and going nowhere.

been thinking the exact same thing IDGAF - either that or ( without prejudice) has had his hand in the cookie jar :D

i doubt he would get the flick if he was enquiring about GC17

yes he would - and so he should

wouldnt be suprised if something like that has beem written into his contract.

time will tell i guess - thats why im holding off on my "thanks for the hard work Greg" thread -

If it is true, it's gotta be significant to happen on match day.
I wonder what sort of effect it may have on the performance tonight?

If the players no longer respected him then it should spur them on. (Especially if Tony Free talks to them before they run out?!)
If they were indifferent then it can't help and could distract.
If many liked him then there is a good chance it will distract...

Said this a few days back (check my post if you don't believe me)... there has been a whisper that K Sheedy is going to play a role at Richmond(not coaching) and he was bringing James Hird with him:thumbsu:.... Assistant coaching role?

Anyway this might turn out to be Bullshit ???... though if it's true, you heard it or should i say read it 1st here!

perhaps he was planning to step down at the end of the year and it was leaked, only explanation i can think of, why would the club annoynce his sacking so close to a game???

i doubt the club would sack him for wanting to stand down at seasons end - they would probably have agreed with it.

something very bitter and nasty has happened = there can be no other explanation

I could live with that, quite comfortably if I may add. But in reality there's been much speculation on here and only time will tell what's gone down at Tigerland.

Just hoping it's all good and for the good of the Club.

I CANNOT BELIEVE THERE ARE ANY OF YOU WHO THINK THIS IS A BAD DECISION!

I am so excited that this has happened. About time. The guy is useless. All he has ever done in his career is Wayne Carey. Been riding on his coat tails ever since.

Bring on a new era!
