finally bought this last night, got shown around scope and joliners world not having a clue what to do.
once they left i started my own, i really should have played the tutorial. i still have no clue what i'm doing.

I made a little cave with the essentials a bed, a furnace, a crafting table and a storage chest.
made a small farm and have a garden which is pretty much a wheat patch.

then i focused on a nearby sand deposit, and midway through thought this is a great place to build a small sand stone castle, there's plenty of water around it will even have a moat.

7 hours later i've got sheer cliff ways and have excavated half the river and still can't fill the moat.

Now i'm thinking i probably should have played the tutorial.

Use iron and flint to make a flint and steel and then use it on the nearest tree. It, er...makes rainbows.

Don't ask questions. It works. Ask DemonJim.

As long as you don't light them in my world Sydney Bloods it will be all fine! ;)
P.S the top of that hill you were digging had many more trees on it before Dannnnnnnnnn got to it with flint and steel.

I think this trick still works, but if you want unlimited water, make a 3 block hole in the ground (lengthways). Get a bucket and fill the three blocks with water. Then take your water from the middle block. Unlimited water = moat.

yeah i was shown the trick last night 2x2 opposite ends turns it into a water source.

the 2x2 is better than the 1x3 as you can pick water from anywhere as opposed to just the middle.

Dannnnnnnnnn I showed Sydney Bloods your trick last night. The jungle looked glorious!

Bump:

So there was an update on the PS4 version of this last night and it has basically brought the console version as close as it's ever been to the PC version.

  • Added new blocks: Chorus Flower, Chorus Plant, Dragon Head, End Gateway, End Rod, Purpur Block, Purpur Pillar, Purpur Stairs, Purpur Slab.
  • Added new items: Chorus Fruit, Popped Chorus Fruit, Dragon's Breath, Elytra, End Crystal, Lingering Potion, Water Splash Potion, Potion of Luck, Tipped Arrow, Boats made from Spruce, Birch, Jungle, Acacia, and Dark Oak.
  • Added new mobs: Shulker, Stray, Husk, and Skeleton Trap Horses.
  • Updates to terrain generation:
    • The End has changed when generating a new world, and can also be updated for old worlds. To get the new End in an old world, select "Reset End" in the "More Options" menu when loading the world.
    • After killing the Ender Dragon in the new End, an End Gateway will spawn nearby. Throwing an Ender Pearl into this will teleport you to a new area in The End with an End City and End Ship.
    • Within the End City and End Ship you can find Shulkers, Elytra, and a Dragon Head.
  • Added new Tutorial world.
  • Added Elytra, which let you glide around the world when you are wearing them. Jump while falling to start gliding.
  • Boats are now controlled differently and can have multiple passengers.
  • Brewing now requires Blaze Powder as fuel for the Brewing Stand.
  • Updated crafting interface to allow crafting Firework Stars and Fireworks.
  • Villages now generate naturally in the Taiga biome.
  • Added Amplified Terrain option.
  • Added Fallout Mashup Pack trial.

As far as I can tell the only difference now would be the combat system and shields (or lack thereof ) edit: oh and the whole 2 handed/dual wielding of items/tools etc.
