6, 10 and 15 together are better than 8, 13 and 16.
To say its not a better draft hand to present to GC is just not right.
Have you stopped to think Hamish and his team may not rate one or more of the SA boys at the top quite as highly as most on this BF board? Personally I think they'll only pay overs to get a crack at Lukosius. I'm not going to be at all surprised if Bailey Smith is still there at our pick we take him over the SA boys.

Totally agree. You pick the best available.

Not going to lie, I want Rankine. But if Ogilvie passed on him for somebody, I'll defer to his knowledge and assume there is a bloody good reason for it.

They have a better draft hand than we do. They could package up their picks and get GC to seriously consider swapping pick 2 and 3 for them. We dont a hand worth doing that with.

What else do they have outside of 6 + 10? Especially with Wingard hawks bound (so say 15). That may get you 2 or 3, not both.

Hell even 6 + 10 + their first next year is still a case of 2 or 3.

Even 6 + 10 + 15 + next years first isn't likely to be enough for both of them.

If we have no intention of letting go of players to upgrade draft position, we’re better off leaving it to draft night.

If the aim is to get one of Luko/Rankine/Rozee, unless we can get top 4, we’d be better off to wait.

If we get pick 5 for say 8 & 16 - we could still miss out or be forced to use another pick again as Port could offer up 6 plus a pick for 4 and the Saints could still get M.King.

If we keep our hand we should still get Hately and whoever we draft with 13,16 and 21.

Rankine is the man for me as well. True X Factor, local kid and has a nhuge bag of tricks. Lukosius is more likely to be the riskier selection, although if he develops as expected will be a gun.

So, whilst we're busy re-contracting Otten and CEY, Port are exchanging picks to get a gun SA kid.

1. Is there responsibility to be apportioned?
2. If so, where should it lie?

We were told that we judge on the final result. I trust Reid and Ogilvie, but whilst doing well individually, the bigger picture hasn't yet availed itself.

Do we trust Burton or is he as certain to screw up our trading team as he is our list. Has this reject been isolated enough or is he still furquing us over from the inside.

My view, Reid is the blunt instrument deployed to haggle. Burton sets the agenda and he's again shat the bed.

Fagan and Burton need to go. What we do well is despite these muppets, not because of them.

PS, I've no issue with either re-contracting but Cheney is furquing unlucky.
WTF ?

They will then trade 6 and 15 to move up...... thus weakening their hand again.
Weakening. Rightly or wrongly they are clearly all in for 1 of the 2 best sA a products in the last 20 years. I was hoping that would be us. Personal view Rankine and Luko are a step above the rest this draft

Theres 2 ways to look at it.

One is as you say, those 2 kids are gems and in particular Rankine could very well play R1 next year. It gets them him and something else decent.

Two is as most of us would say, theyve shipped a whole heap of decent picks and a couple very good ones to get one gun. If it eventuates they will have lost their 2 best players under 25 and a stack of what little depth they had.

Just a shame they had to get rid of all their running players to do it. They are stuffed

Barrett - "The fremantle FC is a mess" because they didn't take Hogan. Surely they have made a good decision if Hogan has application problems. Maybe he isn't everything that Melbourne say he is

This guy is a roosterhead

I like 1970 and this thread is a 1970 classic. Look forward to revisiting later.

I for one will be delighted when our 3 first round picks are non-SA lads who are as promising as Charles, Lever and Gov.

Kids, this is what happens when you drink too much.
Or he could be in withdrawal from not having mentioned the words “sack Burton”, and needing another vent through a random non-drunken thread.

Personally I’ll put my hand up and say I know zilch on who we should be picking on the draft picks. I just hope the kids we pick would lead to a stronger team in the years to come. Amen.
