This match against Richmond has the clearest audio I could find. The intro is very different to the 1972 Fable Singers song and it has a different person singing. The song appears to have been used as early as 1996 and continued to be used until 1999.
Unfortunately, trying to restore the audio will be hard due to heavy background noise (commentary, post match interviews, crowd cheering etc.)
It also has slightly different lyrics to the 1972 song.

Great find - very clear in that one.

Today I received a Sydney Swans CD that I bought on eBay and unfortunately it doesn't have the song used for games between 1996 and 1999.
It does contain an alternative version of the current song with a second verse. It also has some dance mixes of the Cheer Cheer song and a more modern rendition of the Cheer Cheer song.
There's also 2 songs by a man called Dave Warner; The Courage Of The Man and Three Cheers For Roos
I'm not sure if anyone is looking for these songs but if you are, I can send a copy.

It seems that the Parramatta Eels have got a new song. A high quality recording is yet to be found.

It turns out the "New" Parramatta song is actually a shortened version of the 1973 song.

I am still working on my 2 top priority songs, the 1997 Crows song and 1994-1996 Bears song.
Really need to find a copy of the 1996 finals game against Carlton because the Bears song is fairly audible in the TV broadcast and there's no PA announcement telling the patrons about the then new rule which prohibits public access to the field.

There's a lost Rugby League theme song of the Gold Coast Seagulls.
Football & Rugby Club Songs posted a video but it's low quality I'm still looking for a HQ version.

Been having a look at some
1996 vids on Youtubd and have come across a few I hadn’t heard before -

1. Adelaide - Barotone intro with similar instrumental. Different to the version used for 97/98 GFs.

2. Footscray - Sounds like the 89 version of Sons of the Scray with no verses and just the chorus on repeat about 4 times. Can be heard on the runout in the 96 game v Melbourne.

3. West Coast - can’t seem to pickup any theme song post game even with headphones in. Assume they were still using the original 87 version but very hard to tell.

Thanks to Youtube, the songs of the AFL clubs and the elite state league teams (VFL, SANFL & WAFL) can be found there. You can find the previous songs of the South Melbourne Swans and Footscray Bulldogs before they changed their name, some rare and pretty weird variations of the Richmond and Essendon theme songs from the 1990s. There is also the ill-fated attempt to change the Sydney Swans song from 'Notre Dame March' to 'Up There For Sydney' (to the tune of 'Up There Cazaly') in the late 1980s.

Yet two songs remain elusive. The first is the full version of the Brisbane Bears' second song, sung to the tune of 'Glory Glory Hallejulah' and used by the club from 1993-1996. There are several recordings of the first song, 'Dare to Beat the Bear' on YouTube, but all there is of the second song is some poor quality footage of the team singing it in 1996, a show choir singing part of it at a centenary celebration the same year and about 40 seconds of the song uploaded as part of a slideshow.

Totally forgotten is the Woodville Warriors club song, used prior to the merger with the West Torrens Eagles in 1990. The merged club adopted the West Torrens song, and the original West Torrens Eagles song can be found on You Tube. Not so with Woodville, the song used is not on Youtube, described on the Woodville Wikipedia page nor or the WWT Eagles website. Does anyone know what the tune and lyrics to the Woodville Warriors' song were?

Where is the 40 second slideshow version? I would love to hear that

Wow - so this is my first actual find of a rare footy song! (About time too). I've found this original Brisbane Lions song from 1997 - 2000's lying around in the audio files of the Wayback Machine. It's now on my YouTube:

I'd like to mention some other theme songs that aren't found yet:
-The Southern Cats of the TSL from 1997-1998 had the tune of the 'US Marines Hymn' and it went like, "We're the pride of Southern Districts!"

-North Launceston had another version of 'See the Robins Fly Up' that was made by a Launceston local in the 90s.

-Sydney Swans had another song from the 90s called 'Kick On, Sydney Swans'.

-The South Queensland Crushers had a theme song called 'Gonna Crush Ya!'

If you have any info of these songs, let me know!

It's still amazing that Richard Champion was in both the Woodville Warriors team (Round 20 1990 vs West Torrens) and Brisbane Bears team (1st Semi Final 1996 vs Carlton) that sang the lost Woodville and Brisbane songs for the last time after winning these matches, then in 2006 was a contestant on the reality show 'It Takes Two' (similar format to 'Dancing with the Stars' only with singing).
