Hey guys,

Found this article on the AFL website. Was a pretty good read and interesting that Misson thinks we have the biggest potential running capacity out of the teams he has been at.

Sounds like our ability to run hard all game long will be fixed/improved over the coming preseason.

Anyway, I think it shows what a great pick up he was for us at the start of the year.

It was a good read. As I keep telling people, we need to have faith in our footy club because we now have very good people with the right credentials and attitude steering the ship. It will take time, but it will happen. :thumbsu:

Totally agree, to go with the new facilities we now have, we also have some of the best people in the country training the players. Certainly something we havent been able to say for a while. We may not be seeing huge improvements at the moment but as Misson said, this preseason they can focus on hard running and spreading rather than learning a game plan. In a couple of years we will be a fit and strong as any of the teams in the comp. Plenty to look forward to!

Here's hoping he can put a fair bit of bulk on some of the guys as well.

I think if you look at the swans and saints, his two previous teams, they were well prepared physically to play a contested style of football. I'm sure he will be able to build up the players that need it.

Interesting to note that we are using our mid week session to train hard; could be one reason for our inconsistency in games?

That is generally the weekly training time-line for most clubs. Recovery early in the week building up to the main session mid-week. Touch/skill session late in the week, normally the day before a game.

In the article Mission made it seem as though it wasn't the norm though; he said they didn't do that at the Saints or Swans when he was there.

I just re-read the article. He did make it sound like a new initiative.

But it is what the majority of the clubs do. And it makes sense. Players are too sore early in the week to have a really hard, match intensity level session. Later in the week it is too close to a game to have it. Mid-week is the only time you can hold it. And if you only have a 6 day break the mid-week session is nowhere near as intense.

I thought that passage was saying more that the training was a lot harder at Melbourne mid-week than at the Saints and Swans because we care less about energy levels on gameday than we care about setting the players up with fitness long-term.

I don't think we care less about energy levels on game day, I think our players are just behind the other clubs at the moment in regards to their match fitness that they are having a hard training session mid week in order to bridge that gap quicker.

This. And PM's original point is valid. Yes, every club has their hardest session mid-week. But ours is far harder because our fitness is so far off the other clubs. This could explain tired looking legs on the weekend.

Short-term pain, long-term gain.

Bloody fantastic read. Again, makes me really question the professionalism of the fitness guys we had before Misson considering we're so far off the pace.
