Missy is not bad, her commercial radio songs are very annoying, triple j is starting to play more of her album material and it's ok.

Every time i hear her trying as hard as Bryan Brown to sound really Aussie voice on the radio i get the urge to kill im afraid. Rubbish music for JJJ kids to listen to too make themselves feel cooler than if they listened to Delta.

Ah just when I'm thinking that Missy Higgins is definitely the artist on top of my would like to remove from the planet list, someone mentions the Waifs... god even typing their name makes me feel horrible...

Back on topic though, I cannot stand Missy Higgins.

She's OK, but needs better direction. Good clear voice, has some songwriting talent, but needs to not get stuck in the crap land of folky pop. For a debut its OK.

I'm not a Missy Higgins fan, but I'm wondering if the people here bagging her are the same people who bag the manufactured pop (and in a few cases, rock) bands that the big record companies and shows like Australian Idol dish up.

From what I can gather, she does write her own songs and she's trying to do something in her own style. If she can achieve something in her own right as a musician, then maybe it will encourage other people to do the same and we may end up with a music scene with people able to release their own music rather than being surrounded by the 15 minutes of fame pop stars.
