Mitch Clark Return..

Maybe 10 years ago we would've... I'm glad we've come from being literally the worst draft/trade team ever to where we are today, keeping our picks and picking up a few handy players after everyone else has passed over them - just guys like Fyfe, Barlow, Neale etc.

Yeah but we have botched our first rounders recently.

They were saying apparently he's still on Melbourne's list. Not sure what it means. Pretty uncharted territory. It's either trade or draft though.

He wasn't according to the AFL.com article that came out when he retired. Delisted, done. I think the AFL won't let that stand if he does make a return though - that'd be a terrible precedent to set even in the case of a genuine illness like this one.

Pretty certain he's not on Melbourne's list. So there's no need to trade for him, and given he's played no footy for some time he's perhaps worth a rookie spot at best.

TBH, i'd take him if he can show a modicum of interest in coming back. Unless his issues are a lot worse than reported.

In his 6PR interview his manager, Colin Young said that while he is not listed as a Melbourne player, they havent delisted him yet, so he's not sure of what will happen if Clark does decide he wants to play AFL next year.

I'd get rid of Gumby and put Clarke on the list in his spot if I had the choice. High risk, but big potential to pay off if he comes right. I'd also be only offering Melbourne a 3rd rounder max if they need a trade. Clarke would want to have to come to Freo as I think the deal only gets done if he chooses the best envirnoment for himself, assuming he wants to give it another crack.

If he did play - Melb deserve some compensation.

He is still on the Melbourne list, although he has retired.

I know he is not entitled to be a free agent because he retired, but perhaps Melbourne could trade him as he is still technically on their list?

I agree, Melbourne should have a chance to trade him, even if they only get a 2nd\3rd rounder for him.

Edit:
The AFL confirmed today with AFL 360 that he IS still on Melbourne's list.

So based on that, he will need to be traded.

For a start, we don't have to trade for him.
He would need to go in a draft.

If he's still on their list, we would need to give Melbourne something to get him surely? I think the AFL closed that loophole after Mal Michael did the dirty on Brissy.

I wouldn't give them much though,as he's obviously a very high risk proposition. 2nd rounder maybe.

It was similar with Mal Michael.
Unless they changed the rules subsequent to Mal Michael's retirement and comeback.

Good point ....I concede.

**** Melb - they get nothing, they'd only waste it anyway.
Exactly. Freo never got any compensation for the dozens of mistakes that were made from 1995-2006. Tarrant and Carr returned to their original clubs for nothing.

See who said debate was dead on Bigfooty....frank exchange of views and a concession.

Viva La Opionionata

Well the CEO of Melbourne was on 3AW the other night saying that Mitch Clarke has no obligations to Melbourne at all and he is no longer on their list and not under contract to them.
