Really rate this kid, really think that once he builds his tank up he will become a Brad Sewell mark 2 with better marking and goal kicking skills. Quite a few people on this site seem a little too willing to package him up for a mid teen draft pick or in a combo to land Jonathon O'Rourke. There is a good reason why GC are having a crack in trying to lure him across. With the great warrior Sewell's career over, boxer is the heir apparent.

Too many people IMO get hung up on his lack of speed, just remember Kennedy never was and never will be quick but it hasn't stopped him dominating the competition since we let him go. Just remember Hallahan and Luke Parker were rated pretty much equally as juniors - both were co-captains of their club at TAC level. Parker is streets ahead of boxer at the minute but has had an injury free run at $ydney since being drafted. Hallahan lost about two and half years development from his final year at TAC level and first year and half at hawthorn.

Really hope we don get tempted with a trade and keep him, see him a vital cog in midfield for he next 7-8 years.

Solid, consistent footballer plagued by foot issues....Lacks speed & a change of pace, burns the ball by foot....If Gold Coast want him, then he's gone!

We have a dearth of up'n coming midfielders in Anderson, Woodward, Hartung & Webster; with Whitecross to come back....Not to mention the likely addition of O'Rourke & a handful of mids in this years draft!

Surplus to requirements!

Last year we were forced to play guys like Hallahan and players like Mitch etc turned out fine in spite of less match practice.

This may indicate that the seniors, if not injured, should get plenty of rests during the year so guys like Hallahan get a go. A lot of people within the club reportedly really rate Hallahan, Woodward and Jed and maybe the club has told them to be patient

I reckon you might be right. I think it was 360 last week where they were discussing how Crawf raves about Hallahan, and says him going head to head with Mitchell at training is one of his favourite things to watch each week.

Both Hun & Age say that Sewell was told he wouldn't be offered a contract due to the club wanting to give Woodward, Langford & Hallahan more game time.
There you go. Also remember last preseason when Mitchell and Hodge, perhaps humbly, statinh that the senior midfielders were worried about their spots. Mitch talked about this "worry" with such leadership poise. (Had a few drinks so being a bit gushing about the Hawks). But anyway, there is a genuine admiration for these players - including Hallahan

He has stated that he wants to stay at Hawthorn and fight for his spot, which is a great sign, and he is contracted for 2015 so I would suggest he isn't going anywhere.

On the downside, he is laid up for the next 2 months after ankle surgery, so this will impact his pre season and ability to build his tank.

I don't think Hawthorn would trade him unless he asked to be traded.

I hope he stays. He showed potential in the few afl games he's played. The guy's a sherman tank - in and under all the time.

Would much rather Hallahan than O'Rourke. Don't get caught up in the Pick 2 hype.
The difference is though. Hallahan will never be your A grade midfielder that Hawks really need coming through. O'Rourke at least holds a possibility of becoming one. He has been dogged by injuries so far in his career and in an average side as well. If Hawks grab him do not underestimate what he could do.

Boxer is a tantalising prospect. Good kick and we love that. Strong over head, he can drift forward and kick goals and we do not have a lot of them. 13 clearances in the GF so that is his strength. His knock is agility/speed. He is a massive risk/reward type. If he comes off he will play 200 games and be a star. If his body fails him in trying to get that extra yard he will be a complete bust.

Trade value would be around the third round. For the cost of another year on the list I would hang on to him.

Agree with this.
Boxer does not hold much trade value and with Sewelly gone, would prefer to keep him for another year. He has now had a taste and I am hopeful he will show further development.

Think I also remember Mitchell talking about learning things from Hallahan in his 250 game interview which was quite a compliment!
