Anyone reckon he is capable up the ground?

From what I hear he doesn't personally want to be pigeon holed as a forward pocket his whole career.

If the other forwards (including Petts and Nahas) found some form surely he would be worth a shot?

As Daryl would say, "you never, never know..."

Half forward flank can kick goals from a distance. We lack any forward who can apply extreme pressure on the opposition Nahas or maybe give King a stint up forward. He can apply defensive pressure and if he is going to turn it over at worst it will be out on a full.

Felt sorry for the bloke on the weekend, seriously he must have been thinking that we were playing one-short all day with him just sitting there watching all the bullshit up field.

However, l worry about him. He will cost us a game one day because of his immature way of kicking for goals. If he continues to try snap every goal, it will leave him with egg on his face and when the time comes to have to kick properly, he wont be able to. I hate the way he kicks for goal, his conversion might be good, but he'll come a cropper when we need him the most.

Until he learns how to kick properly, putting him into the midfield is just not an option.

I think how he shoots for goal is not really a big problem personally.

If he was missing heaps then yeah fair cop.

Haven't any real signs of poor diposal either.

His brother Jarryd put a huge amount of effort into developing his endurance to be able to play around the ground. It has proven to be a good decision on his part instead of waiting for a gig in our forward line. From what I know they both played similar forward line roles as juniors.

What I'm trying to say is his brother has developed another dimension to his game so why not Mitch?

worth a shot atm. need to be doing something different.
we know he can kick at the goals. but can he hit the leading target. with a drop punt maybe. or better suited for him a banana.

Did you miss the memo on how the RFC can't develop youth?

Last preseason Mitch was played on the half back line a bit in the praccy matches. I remember one report noted that he was dominant on the half back line. Mitch Morton is a quality ball user and could be played on a flank or if he follows his brothers lead and hits the running track and gym hard he could be played in the middle.

There are - i think - two main reasons he is being played deep forward atm.

1. We are light on damaging forwards of any size and he is at the moment the most dangerous apart from Richo when he goes forward.
2. He hasn't always shown the commitment/work ethic required to play midfield. In the first game against carlton he was one of the best on ground in the first half but ran out of puff and drifted out of the game in the second half. This season he has shown a willingness to tackle and chase but last season was sent to the twos for not doing so. This could be tank issues but also a lack of courage to push himself to a greater level.

What the club and Mitch should be working towards is turning Mitch into a Steve J type. A player capable of playing deep or high forward and pushing into the midfield from a half forward flank when required. Like Steve J he has freakish skills and like Steve J earlier in his career he needs to build a bigger tank and work harder. Johnson was not a champ until he came back from suspension ready to work hard and now he is one of the hardest running forwards in the comp.

until our foward line has atleast 4 guys capable of kicking goals, i dont want mitch leaving the 50.

with browny spending time in the middle, mitch and jack our only real options up foward.

schulz gets moved around that much the poor bloke cant show his worth at full foward for a whole game (although i agree he does need to lift his game but has been far from our worst)

Keep him up forward. We need goal-kickers. Apart from Richo we really don't have a target up there. If one of Hughes/Schulz shows they can stand up and kick the goals over the next few weeks then consider moving him away. Until then keep him where he is.

Don't think he is suited for midfield duties... was part of the reason for his fall out at West Coast. He is a burst player and when pushed forward into the middle he does not put in the hard yards.

No disputing his talent just a bit lazy and he often floats in and then out of games. On the half back flank he has no option but to be more accountable.

As sad as it may sound his best spot is as a forward.

Pity his work ethic was not stronger as his foot skills are something to behold and you would love to have him feeding you in the forward line.

so morton does not practice kicking drop punts at training? so everytime he gets the ball he always snaps it?

Still doing it and still slotting them

i have no probs with it whilst he's slotting them, i worry about his lack of tricks, he wouldnt get a game as a midfielder..and needs to do more as a HFF...only had a couple of shots last night

Probably his worst game of the 5 so far, thats why I feel sorry for him. Had a bad game when nearly everyone else didn't.

Oh well, I think he's a good player and presents time and time again.

Dont give a flying **** dude....as long as they sail through the middle. When he has to kick properly i am tipping he will. You play to your strengths. If that means reeling around and curling it through on the snap, then thats what it is....the one thing that this guy does know is where the big sticks are and what he has to do at a given moment to thread it through. Knows how to move to get into some kind of position to allow for a snap and is light years ahead of "smarts" when compared to his predecessor. Mitch can also take a contested mark, even when pitted against a taller opponent. Right there is one of those light years...;)

Perhaps that sadly, sums him up. Once people start stepping up, his failings become more apparent.

he's no mid fielder, from what ive seen his pace isn't that impressive but within 50, definitely more dangerous there.
