Mitch Morton's Hero antics needs addressing

i dont care what he does as long as he is comfotable with it and mostly kicks them.

i back that statement up... we are giving mitch shit for playing on but the thing is he didn't miss it... if he had of went back had a set shot and missed the world would have been calling for his head... give the kid a break... people forget he is still young and has barely played or hasn't played 50 games...

Let's not curb the natural instincts of the bloke.

If he continues to improve and become a regular player for us he will work it out. A bit like the way Steve Johnson "worked it out". If he doesn't do this he won't get selected. Simple. Let's not turn him into something he is not.

All I want him to do is have the confidence to kick set shots, sure a few snaps will win you a few games but set shot will win you a lot more when you have the confidence to kick them.

With regards to MM, the Port and Freo incidents are completely different. In the Port game, we had the lead, and he simply didn't use his head and think, we have the ball up our end, lets slow it up, and give our guys a chance to "D" up. This was just a mistake from a young player, who I'm sure will learn and do better if in the same situation again.

Against Port, he had to kick the goal for us to win. He knows that his best chance of doing that is to play on and open up the angle. Does it make any difference if he misses with a set shot ro by running around? A miss is a miss. Should Brad Johnson have kicked a banana or a drop punt last week? Was he being a lair by kicking the banana? I don't think so. The only risk for MM was if the siren goes after he plays on, but I think most people felt there were still a couple of minutes to go.

Unfortunately, MM's set shots need some work. I think his general kicking technique is not so bad, but his approach and mind-set are failing him. But for the moment, his run around and snap style is far more productive, if the opportunity is there.

Needs to pull his head in a bit this bloke, could have cost us another win had he missed that shot on goal.Start playing for your team and not for yourself mitch.I'm beginning to understand why west coast weren't too fussed about him leaving.Stop trying to be the "hero" and start playing team football you'll get a lot more respect from the players and supporters otherwise you'll just be another wasted talent like Marty mcgrath who could have been a gun if it wasn't for his attitude.

Pull his head in...he's done nothing wrong. You get someone like a Lovett and he's called a genius...and when Micha dose it he's 'playing for himself'.

Mate you have no idea

IF ANYTHING he needs to work on his set shots so he is more comfortable - he's getting way to close to the man on the mark..

"Basically it's general mathematics. I've got a left to right ball flight so from that side of the ground I've really only got half the goals to kick it in.

"Whereas if I run around and snap it it opens the whole goal face up. That's the reason I do it, I don't do it for any other reason and I'd kick more of them than I would a set shot.

"We've got pretty strict team rules and I'm allowed to (play on) from pretty much inside 30m. I probably took a few liberties earlier in the year when I was a bit further out and I was pretty upset at myself for that and so was Terry (Richmond coach Terry Wallace).

I'm going to trust Morton over someone on BF who thinks he knows best.

I'm not shooting him down,he barely got that goal. There will be a time he'll miss those in the dying minutes. He needs to work on weakness and he'll be a class act in the future.
Your saying that now but that's just one game where he was lucky but when he misses them you'll be singing a different tune.

Where he was lucky? Because he put it on his boot and kicked it from 30? That is called skill.

Did you want him to pass it.

You keep talking about his "weakness" but it went through the big sticks and got us 4 points and delivered 6 points on the scoreboard. There is nothing more he could have delivered. There is no weakness to speak of.

Set shots at training and over summer ,lots of it to build confidence.

Thats just it he didnt miss, BECAUSE HE BACKED HIMSELF if he did end up missing it no one could blame him for the loss. you dont win/lose a game because of one player.

It's his natural game to play on and he kicks these goals every week from all angles. He did the right thing

I want him to add to his game and become a real classy player,I reckon brown or petts would have went back and slotted it.

Lots of tiger supporters were irate with what he did two weeks ago so I doubt very much they wouldn't angry had he missed.

^^^^^^
The difference 2 weeks ago was he was selfish and stupid. This week he did what was needed and what he thought was right.

:thumbsu:ANYOne have any stats on conversion rates.
I'd be tipping Mitch has a better conversion rate than anyone else in the team!!

Where would you find those stats footywire?
